I love the idea of a season long investigation of one house.

Fox is developing another horror series, this time without the camp comedy of Scream Queens. The network has given a script order to Haunted, which bears some similarity to The X-Files. ​

Like the setup for Fox’s iconic hit, Haunted pairs a female skeptic and male true believer who are called into investigate a supernatural event. Unlike on The X-Files, however, the duo are not FBI agents and they focus on a single story line — a supposedly haunted house — over the course of an entire season.

Here’s the pitch: “A chilling horror series about a military agent who is partnered with her ex-boyfriend, now a rogue demonologist, to help a family overcome a deadly demonic infestation of their home. The season-long case investigates the true story of one of the most haunted houses in America. The believer vs. nonbeliever duo, by solving the mystery of the present, will solve the mystery of their damaged past. At its core the series will explore the age-old question, ‘Is evil real?’ “

The show story is loosely on the Bob Cramner book, The Demon of Brownsville Road.

William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside) is attached to write and direct the project, with Chris Morgan and Ainsley Davies as executive producers.

Most haunted houses are the result of a demon infestation in the form of a poltergeist. The average demon which haunts a house settles into and onto one domicile, yet the rogue demon will actually move, like a vagabond- ergo the name rogue, from house to house. That is why the rogue demons are worse than the typical variety. You may think you have exorcised the house and vanquished the demon, only later to find out it was a rogue demon and it simply moved on.

That is actually where the phrase a bad penny always turns up comes from. Penny being the old German word Pfand for token or pledge, and rogue demons were at once actually cast upon individuals as a curse. It was pledged in the form of a curse to another's house. The bad penny indeed would always turn up.
