Has anyone here been an extra or an actor in a film or show?

There is a zombie movie calling for extras near here. I think it'd be too much of a big day for me to go, but I was interested to hear what others experiences are like?
 
Don't think so. However I did walk thru an indie set (on public sidewalk) when was in New York City 😳

Actor or Extra? Did you have to wear makeup or costumes? Was it a lot of hours?

They used to film kids tv shows at my old school so I had been in the background before but that was just, walk to locker, laugh at friends. Nothing big and I never saw the show.

The movie they are making near here is a big zombie flick, so I am imagining there would be more to it. They ran a story in the local paper so they've probably been bombarded with extras now.

It was just sit in the stands and clap as people "dove" into a swimming pool. But I did get to talk to Burt Young for a little bit.
 
Yes. When I was 17 I was an extra in the movie "A Tiger's Tale". I'm in the drive in movie scene (not really visible but my truck is). 3 nights work at $60 a night.

We got rained out for about 2 hours on the second night. Some of us were playing poker, and C Thomas Howell came and played with us.

Even more interestingly, I got the opportunity because one of the other filming locations was almost next to our house (SE corner of the block when we were NW). A friend and I saw it when we were walking and volunteered to help out. We were unpaid gophers. A position actually opened up and Dani (my friend) was hired because she was 18. But they sent me over to be extra in the drive in scene.

I was REALLY pissed when I found out they'd actually wanted OUR house first, but Dad said no.

Yeah this is why the article stood out to me, cos this isnt really a destination for anything besides people who like nature.

But its gona work well for an apocalypse /zombie movie - very few people or buildings, lots of gravel roads and scrubland, untouched coastlines. Even the city is a ghost town on a Sunday morning. They wouldn't even have to close the road!
 
Well, I lied, albeit by forgetfulness, sorry. Something of one just we spend most of our time subbing for Washington D.C. (I'm an American, sorry). I kinda find it funny because the architectural styles are all wrong. We're Neo-Gothic, D.C. is Neo-Classical.

I still don't leave my house enough.
 
I was a featured extra in a childrens tv show in the early 90s . I played 'gypsy traveller number 3' 😉 .

Sadly my debut performance is lost in the data churn . I have looked 👀 👀 😛 .

It was a few days work , fascinating and super boring at the same time .

Legit celeb in our midst!
I have not, but I have heard stories about it. Everything has to go just right per the director and studio’s orders, but it also is an atmosphere where you get to see the real side of people. I remember Jay from RedLetterMedia talking about how he went to go be an extra in the newer Nightmare on Elm Street movie and talked to Jackie Earl Hayley (I hope I spell that right!). Apparently he was very candid about not caring about the franchise haha.

Being an extra can also be dangerous in some situations. There was a woman in…Transformers 3? who got in an awful accident due to poor information conveying and directing and ended up with a horrible brain injury.

Explains NOES 2010. I bet the other actors playing main characters didn't care for it either, it was just pay and something for the resume.

I already have one of those, perhaps I'd be perfect as a zombie extra 🤣 but in seriousness, I hope she survived and is living ok now. Reminds me of that faulty gun accident recently with Alec Baldwin. Scary on set!

I couldn't do more than one day of work so its not gona be a job for me this time, but its cool to hear all your stories! Keep 'em coming 🙂

She did survive and went on to get a…2.3 Million Dollar USD settlement? I can’t remember the exact figure but it was quite large
