Have You Ever Had Anything Web-jacked.

I first discovered the internet about the time windows 98 came out. Before that I had a bull terrier named Hambone Jones. So when I started to book onto places I'd always be Hambone_Jones, and I'd never have any trouble getting the name. I was always first. Then I wasn't. It was like overnight there were Hambone Joneses everywhere. One guy even had the brass to call himself "The Original Hambone Jones".

So I lost that name, and I chose Nerd4Hire, among others. The first thing I did when I booked on here with that name was I googled to see if it was anywhere else, because I remembered the Hambone thing. There were no Nerd4hires. There are now. There's even a nerd4hire.com now.

So I don't know...Simultaneous invention, or web-jacking.

Have you ever felt like you had a name, or idea, or something like that web-jacked?

Well on other boards I'm a member of I joined up as cdavjelly11 and so far I am the one and only. When I googled that name, all the things that came up were mine, e.g. they were my TS3 account and some Buffy boards posts were I have banners posted, and my photobucket account... so, so far I've not been jacked on that name.

So onto Summers Blood, and again all forum names that came up are mine.

My friend on TS3 though did have her name stolen. I think she used to be Piper or something on a charmed website and someone stole her name, or hacked into her account, and so she changed her name to originalpiper. As in original piper...

It must suck sometimes though when you make an original user name and them someone steals it.

Im amazed at how many things I can register on with the name Wolf. Especially on here. It seems like such an obvious name that I wouldnt be able to get it.

I mean if people can steal Hambone Jones, Id think there would be more Wolfs. But nope. Just me.

Oh, jeez, I get plagiarized all the time. I had an idea for a tv show, but my idea was stolen by this hack guy, Joss something..

Speaking of web-jacked, when my previous name got mind wiped, I was thinking(for a brief few moments) that it might be humourous to name myself, Nerd2Sire(100% lie).

Then I fell upon Fiver, a name to signify my superlative talent with my fists. Only to find out, some copycat writer guy Doug something, used the name Fiver in some stoopid book about bunnies. Worse than that, the Fiver of the book, was a bit of a paranoid looney tune schizo!

What's the world coming to?

tsk, tsk! I didn't know bunnies had claws?
Actually, with about a billion people using the internet I guess the chances of getting something a 100% unique are pretty slim. Unless you pick something like !@#$%^&* ... but even that's gotta mean something in Chinese.

I have only been to a few websites where I cannot register as SpikedBuffy. I thought it was such an original name and have just adored it forever. I did go to a site once, and tried to register as that, and it was already taken! Ah, it was horrible.

I even went to register on AIM as SB, and somebody already had it! Talk about tickin me off! 🙂

Otherwise, I hate it when people list their name as "Dani" and you know that it's short for Danielle. They think they are all cool, because they can shorten their name... and I'm like.... that's my name, and it's not even short for Danielle. I'm just Dani. I feel like Danielle's who go by Dani are posers. 🙂

I have two names that i use, Dia DeLa Muerte here, but ONLY here, and Bored of the Dead(my fave) on After-Darkness and the now defunct CityofAngel forum, and i'm pleased to say, i have not come across either name. Just before replying to this, i did a Google, a Yahoo and an MSN search and the only references were these three sites.....of and a FreakyDorky blog where she apparently 'f**king hates me', just because she was deleted in the big Terrorist attack(prove me wrong) on Buffy-Boards 0206, and i was not.......LOL

Its like earler stated, with so many people online, chances are most if not all names are copied, i wouldn't necessarily call it Web-Jacked in most cases, just a random coincidence, like working with someone who has the same birthday as you.

Actually I was just using the user name thing, because it was the first thing that came to mind.

I hear people complain about this kind of thing all the time, but it could be anything - art, stories, ideas whatever.

And yeah I imagine in most cases it's just a case of what you might call simultaneous invention. For example I just pulled the phrase web-jacking out of my head, but I bet if I googled it there would be about 10 pages or more on it.

Here's the thing though...It can still bug you. Honestly, it doesn't really bother me personally, but I've heard others complaining, so I'm assuming there is some curious thing there worth analyzing.

16500 actually...gosh i'm a geek.....but i get what you mean now, the whole shebang, not just name....gotcha, the brain is firing on all cylinders....the lights have been turned on.....Willow has come home!
I've always been either Miffed or more commonly Miffed67 and have never had a problem using that name anywhere. Must be a lot of pissed off people, because I usually can't use just Miffed, and have to tack a number on the end. I've Googled it many times, always comes up with stuff I've done.

I used to always register everywhere as HillbillyHunter being as it was my horses name. Never had a problem getting it cause really, who else would use that name. But one day I tried registering for something and HillbillyHunter was taken!!!! I was like wtf who else uses this name! I ranted for about a half a second then got over it and changed my username. lol. Now it could have been a weird coincidence, but thats when I shortened it to BillieHunter or BillieHunter6103 cause sometimes I have found BillieHunter is taken, but usually I don't have a problem getting the name so its all good.

just because she was deleted in the big Terrorist attack(prove me wrong) on Buffy-Boards 0206, and i was not.......LOL

1: When the attack happened, George Bush was oddly missing. He didn't resurface for three days. Prior knowledge??
2: Buffy Summers was taught computer skills by CIA operatives.
3: The "attack" thinned out the herd, and allowed the the PTB to enfore stricter laws.. "security over liberty" Meh.
4: BB is a goverment funded site..Check the small print!
5: Buffy Summers has links with the Blue Hack Team.
6: Certain members, mainly admin, were warned to take precautions and avoid the board for a while, TWO DAYS before the "attack" happened.
7: Mr Pointy, and Nerd4Hire, were both ordered to stand down, when the attack was under way.

My opinion? Inside job! The system is corrupt!
