Have you ever lost a friend?

I've lost a lot of friends over my life time. Most of them we just moved and lost contact because of it. A few i've lost just because they weren't true friends and they stabbed me in the back. It was middle school and everyone was beginning that cat fight stage so *shrugs*

Then there are some friends I thought i'd lost that recently found me over Facebook. I haven't talked to these friends since I was 6 years old and one day out of the blue like four months ago they found me. Now we're trying to plan a get together sometime when we can afford it. Its a little hard because I live in Delaware, One of them lives in Dayton Ohio all of our hometown and where we met, and the brother to the one that lives in Ohio now lives in California lol so its difficult. I have family in Ohio though so i'm hoping that it could happen sometime soon.

I've lost quite a few. I won't go into detail about all of them, because I don't have that kind of time or energy, so lets just go over the main friends.

Katie - Best friends since we were 5, until high school. This girl wanted Katie all to herself, so she started spreading a bunch of rumors about me, and lying to Katie about me. How do I know this? The girl was talking shit about me, to me and didn't know who I was. Because Katie believed her, I lost a lot of respect for her. We're still friends, but the dynamic is completely different.

Beth - This one hurt the most. She was my world. I was so incredibly in love with her that I couldn't think straight. She had me wrapped around her. I was anyone she wanted me to be. Looking back, I hate who I was. I really wasn't myself at all. I was very dark. I don't know why she left, but she did, and it destroyed me. I'm not who I was when I was with her. I've tried talking to her since then, but she's distant and cold to me. We were so young... I think what is was it that we were both feeling things that confused us and she got so jealous when anyone else showed an interest in me that she ran away from me. She pushed away anyone who showed any interest in me at all.

Liz - We were friends for years. 10, to be exact. She dated my twin, they broke up, but we all stayed friends. He was her "one who got away". So she got him drunk one night and slept with him knowing he didn't have any feelings for her. That old chestnut.

Those are the big ones in my life. I don't really care anymore. I have my few key friends that I know aren't going anywhere, and I have my twin, who's my best friend in the world, along with my mom. I'm okay with the small group I have now.

Like a lot of people who have written in this thread, I too have lost a lot of friends over the years. I think in a weird way, it's natural to do so. We all grow up and get interested in different things and just naturally grow apart in a few instances. The first best friend I lost was because she was more interested in boys than me and only wanted me when she had no one else in her life. I don't talk to her at all now, she seems to still be stuck in school mode, the last time I spoke to her she was talking about things we used to do when we were in school. It made me realise how much I've changed and grown up more in some aspects than herself.

I've fallen out with my close friend (or wifey as we call each other) a lot of times, the longest we've not spoken to one another has been 7 months. That was last year, she lied to me a lot and I think I got far too defensive and everything blew up, that's the majority of it. Then out of the blue she asked for my forgiveness and we had a lengthy chat about the positives of not talking to one another. Our situations have changed and we don't talk to one another every day but it's more healthy for us. Even today she sent me a message whilst on holiday saying how much she wants tell me everything and that we need to meet up and I've been thinking the same.

So you never know what the future holds but if your close to someone even though you haven't spoken to them in a while, you may do again. Life can be strange at times but it teaches us valuable lessons about ourselves that we may not see at present.

I haven't lost any friends by falling out with them, or not that I can recall (if that did happen then it can't have been that major). We just grow apart usually.

But, I've still got my best friend whom I've known for 13 years. We live around the corner from each other, so that helps. But in September we went to different colleges, so we haven't spoken much recently.

The best friend is now gone. Lost, no longer my best friend. I'm not even sure what happened, but it was kind of inevitable, we haven't been close for about a year, but now we just haven't spoken in over a week, I'm not surprised, but it still hurts.

I've lost many, many friends. Which is a shame because I put huge value on friendship. I don't have much in way of family, so my friends have always been my family...making losing them very difficult.

People change, I guess. And some people don't change and that's even more of a problem, especially through high school and whatnot. Sometimes you're just...wrong about certain people. It sucks. But the bright side? I'm completely happy with the friends I have now. I don't have boatloads, but the ones I have are really awesome.
