Has anybody ever met or talked to a fan that thought "Once More With Feeling" was overrated and never got the appeal or why it was a fan favorite?

I know there are members of that wacky cult right here among us, on the Boards 😀

Me being one of them....
I'll step up and admit I'm not a huge fan. I like great story and OMWF is about theatrics. I don't dislike it but I'm not amazed by it. There are far better episodes.

I actually never realized that fans were so obsessed and in love with the episode until I came here. It is a good episode but I never really thought it was that amazing.

Right Goby I was just about to say that! Hahahaha! A certain New Yorker on the boards doesn't hesitate to tell us about his dislike of the episode, but we all know that if you have to keep bashing us over the head with it, you know you love it deep down inside. Just admit it, @NY State of Mind, it's okay. We will not judge you at all. 😛 😉

Haha i never beat it over anybody head...you ask i give a staight answer...its the NY way :)
I know there are plenty of members around here that don't adore it the same way I do. Seems that majority of non fans are straight males...

Myself? I love it. I think it's genius. The storytelling wasn't brilliant, but it really didn't need to be as it was a homage to musicals.

The first time I ever watched it, it was hard to pay attention. I don't like musicals.

But the second time I watched it - I thought some songs were catchy and ended up liking it.

I not only think its overated but I can't even sit through it anymore...I did it twice and the pain only got worse...and I know i'm not the only one who feels this way on BB but I wont throw names out like some ppl *cough* 😛

I'm always surprised to learn that it's ranked as number one on a lot of people's "favorite episodes" list...but I still love that episode. I don't find it overrated but I certainly don't believe that it's the best Buffy episode ever. I remember when my mom's friend gave me the "For your consideration" tape (yes, a VHS tape) that Emmy voters or whatever are given (idk where the hell she got it). She only gave it to me because she hated the episode 🙁 but lucky me I guess 😉

Not a fan either

Although it's not the worst episode ever, I really don't see what all the hysterical fuss is about.
I'm not a blanket hater of musicals though, I've sat through the 'Sound of Music', and 'Grease' but I couldn't stick 'The Rocky horror picture show' or 'paint your wagon'.

In saying that I do have the OMWF CD, but truth be told, I bought that mainly to have the 'Restless suite' song.

Until I joined the boards I had no idea that there were people out there who didn't like it 🙂 Then again, there are people of all sorts of different opinions out there. Me, it was my first episode ever and if I didn't like it I never would have had another chance to get into the series as I only watched it because my teacher screened it in class and I don't know anyone who is into that talks about it like I do. The episode drew me in. To begin with...I love musicals and the like, which everyone here knows (I'm currently trying out for 'Grease' at my school, can I get any good lucks? 😛) and I really liked the songs.

Not to mention...I totally fell in love with Spike the minute he came onscreen. So the episode gets points for that. Plus, I think it's my most viewed episode ever.

The first episode of buffy you ever see is definitely going to hold a special place in your heart. I'm not going to rag on the episode because in my opinion its not a favourite, just giving my 2 cents is all.

& Best of luck in Grease hun! Break a leg, whatever that means!

Oh, yes. It always will. However, that's not the only reason I love it. I'm not going to go too far into it though, we'd be here all day. And thanks for the luck <3
While OMWF is obviously a good episode, its way way overrated. Its a fun episode, but in no way up there with the real legendary eps(like Becoming or fool for love ect) And Tara's song was the best.

The very first time it aired I found it enjoyable but a guy I knew who also watched it that night came over to my house and said he hated every second of it. I'm not sure if he still feels that way, I think he may like it now if he went back and watched it with a more open mind, but yeah, some people dislike that episode :/

Its a fun episode, but it is very overrated. Xander's stupidity gets people killed and absolutely no one cares? Wow, was that bad writing.
