As an episode, I think most of the music and lyrics are catchy, and the characterization is nice. It also expertly blends he usually Buffy atmosphere of horror, drama and comedy. But the plot is paper thin and ridiculous (including the aforementioned comment about Xander being indirectly responsible for murder and mayhem and no one seems to freaking care).

The supporters of the episode would say people who focus on the lack of plot are missing the entire point of this little gimmick episode. When viewed from that angle, the episode is usually in my top 10 list for the sheer fun factor. But it is not in my top 5 list of greatest episodes - those are reserved for episodes that have some plot. 😉

Very well said, although personally it would be down past episode 30 on my fav episode list.
Living Conditions in season 4 is funnier than OMWF, so is Restless, Band Candy and so on.

I didn't like that Xander got off scot-free because he always seems to do stupid stuff without any repercussions (see Becoming pt. 2, Into the Woods, Hell's Bells, Dead Man's Party, Revelations, etc.) and you'd think they'd give him what's coming to him when he literally causes death and destruction.

But otherwise, it was magnificent and although not my No. 1 (no high concept episode could be No. 1 for me), it's easily one of the many reasons why I love Season 6 so much. It was a brilliant way of revealing the fractures in the Scoobies' relationships while retaining (and indeed putting a new spin on) the series' characteristic fleet-footed humour and sense of irony.
