Vampier Hunters ...Vampier dieries... Male Vampier slayers??!! dozens and dozens urban supernatural stories...But where is Buffy?

Only spinning stories in comic book form..Its good to a point.
I think the IP holders and Joss and his very creative team of writers are missing there mark when in comes to the book area the expoldeing Teen or Junior novel market is huge right now it would be a great time to shed new light on the Slayer.

They can do a soft reboot tell Buffys story again in a diffrant way put her back in high school give Willow her powers early...have new fun in the Buffyverse with out the baggage of her great history.

We are grown up fans we can share Buffy with a whole new audance we can be grown up fans and allow her a return to Sunnydale High. It wont affect what we know and love.

But I should not have to explan to a girl that I find the idea of a male Vampier Slayer kinda of laughable and haveing to explan who Buffy is...Thats just wrong but I have done it twice now!

I'm sorry. You've lost me. You expect everyone to know the story that you personally love? Or why else should they know why you think the idea of a male vampire slayer laughable? Buffy isn't the origin of vampire tales or the ones that kill them (slayers?).

I just dont think its fair that may be a little fannish but so be it that part of what being a fan is all about.

I've actually seen more Buffy stuff in my local book stores in the past year than in the 5 years prior to that. I've actually seen little sections of just Buffy stuff. It's not new stuff but Buffy is getting its props... at least in the stores I visit. 🙂

Like it or not but those two are both world phenomenons when it comes to fiction, Buffy isn't. It's not about quality but popularity. No matter how much we love the story/show. Simple as that.

In my eyes, even if people know the basic story of Buffy I still it wouldn't expect them to know why it would be wrong with a male slayer. We just see it differently.

I've only ever seen Buffy books at the local Wal-Mart chain around here, and they're those white ones with three books in one.

I think these book stores around me need to start carrying more of the novels. To add to that, Joss should start getting people to write the novels again. I"m sure Nancy Holder would do it, considering that she just finished writing "The Making of a Slayer" and she wrote a large majority of the novels

In our local Barnes and Noble, there's a huge section of Buffy-related books. It always makes me really happy to see new generations of kids being interested in the books and the show.

While I still hate the idea of a Buffy reboot, I'd love to see a new story of a new Slayer. Maybe they could spin it off as a post-Chosen thing, or do a prequel and show a Slayer that lived before Buffy?

I'm also against a reboot, but would be open to a post-Chosen story of a different slayer. Especially if it provided the opportunity for cameos! 😀

I've never noticed many Buffy books in my local book stores either, but it is impossible to miss the tables and shelves full of vampire teen drama books. It practically has its own section now.

I don't know that there is any truth to this but....I've always assumed that Joss and co. either want to stay away from the vampire trend (they were doing it before it was cool) and/or the fact that they're still telling Buffy's story has made them keep away from rebooting or reintroducing Buffy.

I didn't clarify but my 'against a reboot' comment was directed at all the movie hype that was going on last year(?), not at all to do with books. The movie thing is just the first place my mind goes to when I hear 'reboot' and I wasn't thinking when I posted. Sorry. 😱 Didn't mean to take the thread off topic.

I'd totally be down for more books. Someone mentioned Nancy Holder, I'd love more releases from her. But even if there isn't another Buffy book published, there's always fanfiction. 😛 😀

When I first heard about Buffy season 8, I thought it was in novel form. When I found out it would be comics, I was disappointed with that. I hadn't read comics since I was a kid! But lo & behold, I love the Buffy comics, and it has gotten me back into comics.

It makes a lot of sense that Joss would do comics rather than novels, since he is a big comics fan and has done comics before (X-Men, Runaways, Fray, all the Dark Horse Buffy & Angel comics before season 8).

I have to say that if there were to be any Buffy novels, I would not like them marketed as YA- I think it would restrict the subject matter. Although Buffy is about a teenage girl & the first 3 seasons take place in high school, you can definitely say that the Buffyverse is not for children!

Personally, I want more Fray, and I'll take her in any form: comics, movie, TV series, novel. A vampire slayer in Buffy's line in a futuristic dystopia. It's a great story, and let's be honest, it would sell.

I used to work at WHSmith in one of the store rooms/deports, and I never came across a single Buffy book. We never even had any on special order. Twilight etc were the most popular, but even that waned away after a while.

I think Buffy is very much more of a 'cult' status, and it has a select group of fans. If you asked a lot of people of today what they thought of Buffy, they wouldn't know what it was.

My local bookstore didn't even have the new Buffy book when it came out or even have it in their computer system. It's sad that everyone wants to get into these kind of stories now when Buffy did it first 15 years ago. I honestly believe Twilight's basic storyline is a rip off of Buffy, just with a few things changed to make it seem original which we all know it's not. It does make me mad but I choose to ignore it.

I did see one book at the book store a while ago that was male slayers and it literally was the Buffy mythos except with a male slayer instead of a female one. I found that to be irritating just because they obviously (down to the names) ripped of Buffy but made the slayer male... which essentially just made it kind of sexist.. because if that's the only thing you're going to change about the mythos of the story... i mean...

I miss seeing Buffy the Vampire Slayer books at the library. I don't spend much time in book stores since I haven't the money to buy them. Unless you count the tiny book store inside the library. Very affordable. I get my books there and at thrift stores and yard sales.

I have read many vampire books outside of BtVS.

Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles.
Christopher Pike's Thirst series.
Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series.
Richelle Mead's Bloodlines series.
Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires series.
Mari Mancusi's Blood Coven series.
Stephanie Meyer's Twilight saga.

Of course I've read Dracula. And a few of Laruel K. Hamilton's Anita Blake books, 2 of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse books. Planned on reading the Blood, House of night, Blue bloods, and Vampire kisses books.

But with every single one, I think, "It's not Buffy." There is something in her hero's journey story that you can't find anywhere else.

Many are really good (writing style, storylines, dialogue, characterization) and others are cheap cash-ins.

There are two kinds of Buffy books.

The first are simply novelizations of the episodes. Basically cheap cash-ins

The second are original stories, almost all of which are good 🙂
