Headcanon: Xander Hating Vampires

i've noticed a lot in Buffy, especially mid-season 1 and season 2 that Xander hates vampires for some reason.

I have a theory; What if the reason Xander hates Vampires so much because he feels guilty about letting Jesse become one and eventually having to slay him.

He didn't slay Jesse though. He was close to slaying him until someone bumped into Jesse from behind and into the stake Xander was holding.

Either way. I think Xander's hatred boils down to the fact vamps are Buffy's life, be it romantically or Slayer duties, and he sees her having to go through all this, the ups and mostly downs, when she wishes for a normal life. I'll think on this more.

Exactly. Vampires are monsters. They should be hated. There are reports of them smelling nauseating. And their breath has to seriously be kicking!

Xander does mention Jesse in S9 comics:

Xander: Yeah, it sucks. First time I had to kill one of my friends I was sixteen years old. And when I think about that night, I don't see the face of the vampire. I just see Jesse's face.

I was thinking that maybe you meant why does Xander hate vampires more than others do? In that case, I believe you are righ about Jesse but that it has also to do with Xander's personality and how he deals with things
 
Well, apparently Xander is the only logical guy around, seriously, how can the others not hate vampires as much as he does!

That would seem to be a logical assumption except for the fact that, in the Whedonverse, at least, vampires get their prey primarily be circulating among humans, picking their prey, then luring them away from the crowd to an isolated place before ever revealing what they truly are. In order to do that, vampires would have to appear as human as possible, including theor scent and the odor of their breath.

I have passed by many humans that could pose as vampires. Some you can even smell an aisle over! And on a 90 degree day it turns you off your grocery shop right quick.

And if they turn you off in the grocery store or any other place, when the temperature is 90 or 30, you wouldn't follow one into some dark, secluded place. In order for vampires to survive, they HAVE to blend in and attract, not repel, their potential victims. In the Whedonverse, a vampire's kill is the equivalent of seduction, as opposed to the werewolf's kill, which is the equivalent to rape. With few exceptions, mainly the Master,Kokistos, and Angel in the rat infested alley, Whedon's vampires have been physically attractive, and that would have to include body odor.

I agree, in other fictions, (Carpenter's "Vampires," "28 Days Of Darkness," etc) vampires are true monsters physically, but Whedon's vampires are only monsters when they change into their killing form. At other times, they are totally, not just human, but ATTRACTIVE human. Otherwise, they would starve.

honestly, it seems you are talking of the twilight saga. Buffyverse's vampires keep the same, exact appearance of their human self: they are attractive if they were attractive as humans and ugly if they were ugly so it has nothing to do with them being vampires. Actually their true appearance, the one they show when they hunt is that of monsters and except for few examples (darla in the pilot) they hunt their prey, relying on their ability as fighters not seducers.

By "attractive," I don't necessarily mean physically handsome or pretty as much as interesting and making their intended victim feel comfortable in their company. You would be far less apt to go off alone with an unwashed homeless person than you would with someone who is charming or appears to be interesting, the way that the vampire who led Willow off in Season 1 was.

still it has nothing to do with the vampire's nature in the buffyverse imo. those who have a charming or interesting appearance use it to lure their victims, others will just chase them in the dark (like we have seen happen multiple times on the show). It's related to how they looked when they were humans, not to the fact that they have become vampires. Their appearance doesn't change when they become vampires, they don't become 'more beautiful, interesting, charming'. that happens on twilight

Yeah, I believe it's more like that. Remember that fat ugly vampire from Season 6, the one who was trying to kill Giles and Spike set on fire? I doubt he had (or would have, if he hadn't been dusted) the same luck with the ladies as Angel, Spike, Dracula did...

But the bite has "an euphoric quality, the victim usually even fight back", as Spike said on the comics, and I think Angel said something like that.

Fat vampires confuse me. Do they have to over eat, drink a lot of humans, to maintain their weight from their human form? Wouldn't they naturally (unnaturally I suppose) lose weight and evolve into a faster and more fit creature once a vampire?
