I just got back from the hospital which seems to be my second home these days. I have a weak immune system, for reasons you guys know if you read my "Checking In, Checking Out" thread. I've been feeling really under the weather lately and I went to the hospital and the doctor said I have both "walking pnemonia" and "broncites". (Is that even possible?) Anyway, both are contagious and my parents are still forcing me to go to school tomorrow. Isn't there a state law that if you're contagious you can't go to school? My Mom is an ER nurse, but for some reason she hates me lately and I can't ask her.

I don't know if it's a state law, but it's a definite noted courtesy to not go to a public place with a contagious anything. Personally, I'd tell your mom that you're very ill and that school isn't the greatest place for you now. I hope you get better, though. Chin up. 😀

Buffy Summers - do you know whether Broncites is contagious or not? I couldn't understand a word the doctor said because he had a very heavy accent. I dunno the difference between walking pnemonia and regular pnemoia.

Rocket - thanks. yeah, you'd think that an ER nurse would realise that too.

Hey!

Walking pneumonia is not contagious, and neither is bronchitis (an inflammation of the bronchioles in the lungs). A pneumonia is simply an excess of fluid in the lungs which has caused inflammation and bacteria growth. It may have been caused by a virus like the cold virus, but it just kinda took on a life of its own...I had it a couple of years ago, and I NEVER want to feel that crappy again. I felt so crummy at one point that I wanted to go lie down upstairs in my bed (I'd been on the couch all day), so I walked to the stairs, went up a couple and had to stop for a rest!

That kinda explains why you're feeling like a bag of doggy doo, Hero! That and the other meds is a combo that'll beat ya up a bit. My suggestion...cut school, and if you knew me, that's a really hard thing for me to suggest...I believe in going under almost every circumstance...except nasty illness, which this is!

I really sympathize with you. I've had pneumonia twice this winter along with a couple of bouts of bronchitus, never seem to just get one, they always travel together... Less than fun.

If I were you, I wouldn't go to school anyway, if you can stay home without anyone knowing, do, and call your doctor and have him fax your school a note. Even though it's not contagious, if YOU don't get better, you'll just feel worse. You should most definitely rest.

Good healing.

Bronchitus sucks i have it all the time its contagious if you dont take the medication once your on that your not contagious anymore thats what my dr told me the first time i had it lol but everytime i'm too sick i stay home but that leads to badness the school didn't take my drs excuses and i couldn't make up my work then i got kicked out so be careful with that kinda stuff

I stayed home! Wee! My friends called in for me! LOL! A lot of my friends called into the nurse's line and told them I was sick and the nurse called my home and told me not to go! Wee!

Oh you poor thing!!! I had Mycoplasmic Pneumonia a few years ago and it was sheer torture. Even though you aren't contagious, you definitly shouldn't be going to school feeling like that! I mean really, what are you going to learn when you feel so badly?

Get some rest and I hope you feel better!

both things rather suck. and both at once. glad you didn't hafta go, woulda made you feel worse, at least mentally. something about school, having to be there, and being sick, makes it all worse.

as to the not going to school cuz of contagions, it varies state to state (in the us right?) county/borough to county/borough, school district to school district.
its always common courtesy, but some schools do more than frown upon it. its something that you hafta check out.
in the catholic school i went to, pink eye no school, but i had bronchitis or however you spell it, and that was allright to go to school with. there was other somewhat contagious stuff, like i said it varies, chicken pox was a no go too.

as for the spring break, at least theres no school to make you miserable or to worry about missing. and maybe it'll rain? i dunno but you can always hope. i suppose...i dunno maybe the rain will be pretty. or yellow or some other interesting thing...
at least you can rest right?

really hope you feel lots better real fast, cuz as i remember it, the b thing, horrible, and my brother had the pne thing, and that was bad. so get better.

so get rest, get better...and...do other good stuff that makes you happy, cuz that helps with feeling better. if there wasn't that b thing (my spelling is no good, so i abbreviate where ever possible. why is that word so long?) i'd say you should laugh a lot, but that might be more pain than it's worth, with the lungs and all, so just have some sort of fun like smiling and reading something funny enough to make happy but not to laugh cuz that might be painful and pain is bad.

Thanks for all the warm wishes everyone.

I'm on 4 medications now. This is fun. I hope I don't over dose. I wish I payed attention last year and I could remember which was a teaspoon and which was a tablespoon. Any clues?

Oh...that sucks that you can't go outside...is it raining all Spring break by you, Hero? It's raining here now and it's supposed to rain till like next Wednesday...because outside isn't much fun in the rain anyway...but glad to see you back at BB...I hope you feel somewhat better very soon...those two together must suck..I've had both, but seperate, and that sucks...

4 Meds...that's no fun. Dear god..that can't be any good...don't overdose! teaspoon and a tablespoon can make a huge difference...

BillieHunter - You live in New Jersey? It just started raining here an hour ago. I don't want it to rain because I don't want everyone elses break to be ruined. I think that a table spoon is the bigger one...or...something...

I am very suseptable to pnemonia. Someone told me that once you get it, you can get it again very easily. So I have to be really careful when I go places, I can't get to cold.

Faiths5x5 - if you have pink eye at my school you gotta go home.

I live right across the border from NJ in Pennsylvania...NJ is like 15 min away... and yes..a table spoon is bigger...lol

I live close to you, LoL. Ok, if a tablespoon is bigger, than I have to use the smaller spoon.

Hm...I didn't think anyone on here lived anywhere near me...lol

Good..now you know to use the smaller spoon...no overdosing...cause that would be bad...lol

Bronchitis and Walking Pneumonia are not contagious. The only reason that you should stay home is to got waited on hand and foot🙂 and of course to get better! Pneumoia is a sickness that only gets better through rest.

It is not a state law to go to school contagious. It is advised though, that you don't. Normally, if you are vomiting or have a fever, they will send you home. (I work at a day care and I am studying to be a teacher, so I've been in many schools). Fevers are big no-no's, and that's usually when they would not like you to be at school. But it's not a law.

Hope you feel better.
