As I dive into the last of my potato bread I thought of this query. Do you eat the heels? I typically eat the heels, specifically both heels in one heel sammich. It has, through the years, been a source of ridicule as 'everyone' throws the heels away and doesnt eat them.

I know most people on this forum are abnormal so I figure you all must eat the heels as well.. do you? or do you shamelessly waste money and throw away the heels?

I didn't know what "potato heels" referred to, so I looked it up on the internet. Wasn't disappointed with some of the shoes that showed up there.

That said, it's my favorite part of the bread. I'm french, godammit😉
When I go to the bakery to buy a baguette, the heel usually doesn't make it home...

Same here, the heel is the best part! And those baguettes, mmmmm, and when it's fresh, ya there's no way it makes it home. How very French of us 😛
 
I do...sometimes. It really depends on how thick that slice is; sometimes it's so thin its not worth using it.
 
We call heels "enders". I don't eat them, mostly because they're there to keep the bread fresh and free from mould. The OH eats them with soup.
 
Depends on the kind of bread. Like @RoxySilver said, baguettes, the heels are the best part. 'Normal' bread (for us, plain or pan, lol), no, I don't like the heels and I won't eat them.
 
But do you repurpose the heels you don't eat or just throw them away? I have discovered there are many sites for instructions on how to repurpose your heels. For instance if you take a heel and put it in with your brown sugar it keeps the sugar from 'lumping' together. Or people freeze them to use later for bread puddings, french toasts or croutons.

I've never thought about saving them.
 
My dog gets the heels. No food, absolutely none, is wasted in our house.

You got a dawg!! I didnt know you have a dawg!! What kind of dawg.. I miss not having a garbage disposal sometimes.. toss them whatever you don't feel like eating nom nom nom (om om om if they're french).. let them lick a plate clean so you dont have to run the dish washer. Worst part is the gas. I don't miss dog gas!

A vet friend of mine always told me not to give our dog breads as it can cause ear infections. Is that true? He eats loads of our leftovers too. I'd recommend everyone who has a child ready for weaning to get a dog. He loves getting treats thrown from the highchair.

Yep, I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Her name is TG.

We've raised and bred dogs all our lives. Not one has ever had any sort of issue from eating bread or any other sort of left overs. Obviously she gets dog food and other things that are good for her health, but we like to supplement her diet with other things.
 
She is soooo cute!! The dog I had to put down was a staffy.. I was a dumb kid in my 20s at the time and had no idea what needed to be done with those dogs.. plus he was a male and I didn't clip him.. so he was a hormonal and territorial beast like his daddy.
 
If you mean bread then yes, sandwiches, toast, etc

My parents never had trouble making me eat them, vegetables where another matter altogether.
