As I've explained before.....our President is elected by 'popular' vote. Hence, more than half the country voted FOR him.

So which is it?
Though i think i remember from an episode of Third Rock from the Sun(i know...how lame am I?) that it isn't the people that vote him in....which to me, in a democracy, seems wrong...especially when the people, even if only marginally. dont want him.
But we also have to take into account the fact that a few million people were not allowed to vote, as the parameters were changed for that election that wiped alot of the Black and Hispanic voters from the voting process.
Added to that all the bru haha over the Voting ticket fiasco....George W was never gonna win on the peoples approval...yet he still got in......Like i said...sold his soul to the devil.

What are you basing your "blacks and hispanics didn't get to vote" theory on? I had no problem voting....and I'm hispanic. AND a woman....just in case that figures in to it, also.

if i learned anything in my american government course it is that the Electoral college (which is supposed to vote in what they believe to be the best interest and will of the people, but ultimately is their vote) choose the president. Maybe not fair, but that is how the system is set up.

The Founding Fathers created a republic, not a direct democracy. Maybe just a little quiver of doubt or fear about the logistics of direct voting, or rule of the mob. And the College was an attempt to spread power among the states a little bit, so that the populous areas don't totally dominate, among other things...if I can recall my civics training...
Direct election was rejected not because the Framers of the Constitution doubted public intelligence but rather because they feared that without sufficient information about candidates from outside their State, people would naturally vote for a "favorite son" from their own State or region. At worst, no president would emerge with a popular majority sufficient to govern the whole country. At best, the choice of president would always be decided by the largest, most populous States with little regard for the smaller ones.
