Question Hellmouth/Seal of Danzalthar

Is the Seal of Danzalthar the gateway to the Hellmouth? In which case where are all the Old Ones and the hell dimension in general? It just opens a big cave?

Where are the old ones?! :S
 
I think this is just one of those inconsistencies that we are just supposed to ignore... I choose to believe that the seal goes to a different hell dimension and just happens to be near the hellmouth 🙂
 
Probably, just my theory, of course, the seal WAS an entryway into the, or at least the local, hellmouth, but what was directly beyond it was a sort of antechamber, guarded by the army of ubervamps, placed there to block entrance by anyone or anyTHING from this side. It could have been set up by the Old Ones when they were at war with the humans, and, after their defeat, was sealed in order that the remnants of the Old Ones' army would be contained, sort of what the Initiative did with their facility after Adam was defeated, only on an obviously much larger scale.

Yes, the seal was just the entry to the Sunnydale hellmouth, apparently there were other hellmouths.
Angel spent a hundred years in hell, the wording shows hell and hellmouth to be different places.
 
Yeah Season 7 had the most inconsistencies in and I hope they get explained at some point in cannon.

I suppose we could think of the hellmouth as a general area where entry into hell dimensions is possible and depending on what ritual/entry you use you access different dimensions. (sort of like what you said Xin)

I really don't understand why Season 7 wasn't 'tighter'.

I absolutely loved a lot about it, it just has some maddening inconsistencies!
