Hi! I have been a big buffy fan for 10+ years and i am glad to have finally found a place online to discuss it in depth with other like minded fans.

My Buffy experience is a bit different from most people's and I think I look at Buffy as a whole (the Tv series anyway) from a different angle than many fans.

You see, I started watching in season 4, because I was given the season 4 boxset for Christmas. This is the season that many say is the worst of Buffy. I wouldn't necessarily disagree, but it is the season that introduced me to Buffy so to me it is the "standard"... the Buffy "default" by which everything else in the series is measured.

So to most people watching season 4 for the first time, they are a bit dumbfounded by how different everything is, no more school, no library, no Angel... I didn't have any of that. And actually season 4 is a pretty awesome introduction to the series, because of the fact that it's such a clean slate.

Then I had the added bonus, after watching season 5 on video and then season 6 and 7 as they came out on TV, of going back and watching series 1, 2, 3 - and seeing the amazing backstories of these characters I had grown to love and characters and finally witnessing events that had been referred to in later episodes.

"You didn't sense a hyena posession did you?"

and
"Wait until you have an evil twin and see how you handle it!"
"I handled it just fine."

Finally these quotes made sense to me!

It was like watching a really good movie and then 2 years later they bring out a really good prequel which answers everything you questioned about the series.

One thing that's quite funny now I look back on it - I had no idea for ages that Buffy had any super powers. It is not actually mentioned (or at least I didn't pick up on it) for much of season 4 that she has any mystical quality to her. She just came across like a girl who had joined a mission (of which Giles was some kind of elder) to fight vampires and demons. And for a long time I thought it was very unrealistic that this ordinary person could recover from various serious wounds and beatings so quickly. It was not until the whole "super-strength" thing came up when she and Riley start play-fighting, that it made a lot more sense!!

Anyway that was my introduction to the show, and this has been your introduction to me 🙂 😀

Hello YummySushiPJ's (awesome name by the way). Thank you for the detailed intro! It's cool to see where you're coming from, in terms of buffy and that we've arrived at the same place.... LOVE. 🙂

I look forward to seeing you around here.

Welcome to BB! Thats really interesting - how did you feel about Angel if you started with Season 4 with references then on? and then finally watching the Buffy and Angel relationship in Season 1-3 after?

Enjoy your time here - looking forward to seeing your posts 🙂

Welcome to BB! It's nice to hear your views on the show. I feel the same way about Angel. I've watched Buffy for years and there were always references to Angel's own show which I never experience until recently. Have you watched Angel?

Welcome to the BB!!! Your username is awesome 😀

It's interesting how you experienced the show.. I could see how awesome it would be to start off in the midst of a story and get to know the characters after they've already been through so much. Then to go back and understand better how they developed and see the understory of their relationship is like a big eye opening moment. Cool story 🙂

Welcome to the Boards! I enjoyed your intro, it was written out very well. Can't wait to see what you bring to the boards. 😀

Hi there. :welcome: I like it when people haven't watched the show from start to finish as it aired. You rarely think of all the things that can be confusing to someone that jump into the show somewhere in the middle.

Thanks. I didn't have the emotional attachment to Angel (the thanksgiving episode where Angel comes back but keeps it a secret from Buffy meant virtually nothing to me on an emotional level, but I still very much enjoyed it).

i knew from the way other characters spoke of him that he and Buffy had a big and important past, but even after watching the first 3 seasons, I'm not one of the "Angel is Buffy's only true love" brigade. But then, nor am I fond of Spike and Buffy's "relationship".

To be honest, romantic relationships on TV shows aren't my thing, which I know is strange as most Tv shows revolve around them.

I really like the notion of Angel as a character though - a vampire who was returned his soul and is tormented by the things he has done. I find that really interesting.

I've seen some of the Angel TV series but I still have a lot of that to look forward to watching. I saw up to around Darla and Drusilla being set on fire.

Welcome! I was so excited to find this board myself... I started watching in s4 too. 🙂

I'm Jenn. Glad you're here!
