Hi everyone! I'm a very old (a little younger than Spike's James Marsters) lawyer in Northern California with a son and no television/cable reception. I haven't watched tv/cable in about 8 years. A friend of mine suggests TV shows that I get on Netflix. He suggested Lost, Heroes, and Dexter. After Dexter he said, "Don't laugh, you have to try Buffy." I resisted, but to shut him up, I said I'd give it a try. I had no idea why he would suggest I watch a silly show made for 15 year old girls (hehe).

So I got Season 1 at the local library about 6 weeks ago. To my surprise, it was pretty good. Then I checked around with my zombie loving friends, who all said "Dude, of course it's good!! Season 1 is good, but wait until you hit Season 2... you will know it when you get there... that's when Buffy becomes great!!"

Well, I got Season 2, and my friends were right. It became GREAT and has remained GREAT!!! I've been watching it with my 9 year old son. I watch the shows the night before, then either allow him to watch it, tell him it's way too much, or fast forward through scenes he should not see. Season 6 has been rough on him... there are some deep and dark episodes that he hasn't been allowed to watch.

I just finished the Season 6 Finale and all I can say is WOW!!!! This series just gets better and better and better. I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen in Season 7, but I start it tomorrow. I'm a little excited, and I little sad.

Oh, I'm also a vegetarian and have loved punk since the 80's (favorite bands -- Lagwagon, Strung Out, Propagandhi, Tsunami Bomb). My favorite episode was "The Body," which IMHO, was one of the best TV episodes I have EVER watched.

I'm looking forward to chatting about my favorite episodes with all you. 🙂

Welcome to the boards. It's never too old to watch Buffy. And how nice that you watch with your son. I would do that too. 🙂
 
I've never seen Angel, and know nothing about it. I "think" Cordelia and Wesley are in it, and from Buffy's Season 4 episodes, I think she visits. But that's it!
 
HEY and welcome to the fold! 😀 You will come to find that Buffy fans are VERY loyal; I'm sure by now you can see why, having watched almost the whole series. 🙂 It's truly an amazing show and I'm happy you decided to give it a try! 😀
 
Hi! Welcome to the boards! I also resisted watching but after I did, I fell completely in love. And I too don't have a TV. I have a fantastic computer and the internet. TVs are overrated. =]

Welcome aboard! It's a great forum, but as other said - beware the spoilers!

I highly recommend watching Angel as well as Buffy - it's great, and not always for the same reasons as Buffy.

Eventually, I too plan to watch Buffy / Angel with my son.
 
You're not the oldest person on this board. I'm 60, if there's anybody older than I am, I'd like to know about it. Curiously, I'm also a vegetarian, and I also don't watch broadcast television (haven't since 1987), so it's kind of spooky. I even come from California (central valley), though I don't live there now. Do you by any chance speak Mandarin Chinese? If you do, we're doppelgangers.

Now about S7 -- oh boy oh boy do I envy you, seeing it for the first time. I've rewatching it now. Yes, be careful of spoilers on this board and ... PLEASE, WATCH ANGEL TOO, especially in S7. Angel S4 is probably the best season of Angel, still not as good as Buffy, but you have to watch it for the crossovers. If not you'll have a major WTF moment waiting for you. Most of us know what I mean.

I see you loved S6. A lot of us don't, but I do, another point where we agree. Kim Butler says that people who see the show first on DVD usually prefer the later seasons, and I think that's true.

I'm jealous that you've yet to watch season seven - I'd love to be able to go back and watch the show anew. Hope you continue to enjoy the series and the boards (though beware spoilers!)

Wow, this board is heaven!!! I've already read and participated in a thread about "The Body." But when I went to that thread, I had to force my eyes to stay clear of the Season 7 thread with the little intro, which says in part "Spike gets a soul....." Thank goodness I didn't read the other part.

And yes, we might be semi-dopplegangers. I don't speak Mandarin Chinese, but my son and I love tofu served at a Mandarin Chinese restaurant.

BTW, the internet is evil!!! I can't google any of the actor's names for fear of spoiling something. I knew I saw Oz somewhere else, went on wikipedia, and it gave away a plot twist in Season 3 or 4. I think I know what happens to Willow in Season 7 because I HAD to find a song I immediately fell in love with from "Where the Wild Things Are" (Face to Face - God is a Man) and a youtube video appeared with a title about what happens to Willow in Season 7. I really hope I read it wrong and my beloved Willow survives Season 7.

And one more BTW...... I've become addicted to Buffy. I'm sure most of you understand that. I've been averaging a season every 8 or 9 days. I'm not quite sure what I'll do when it's done.... other than start Angel, read/watch Season 8 and 9 comics books, and then read the novels. 😀
 
It must be great still having a whole season of 'fresh' episodes to watch. How I envy you. 😀
