I don't. Just because she identifies as gay doesn't mean what she had with Oz wasn't real. Sexuality is much more fluid than anyone gives it credit for. I think what she had with Oz was love, it was really honest-to-God love. Gay people can fall in love with people of the oppisite sex. It's not like her identifying herself as gay means she could never have feeling for a man like that. And it doesn't mean she never has. Straight people can fall in love with people of the same sex too. An example in TV... Angela from Bones. She fell in love with her roommate in college... twice. But she's still straight. If Angela was to say now that she's straight, it wouldn't be contested by anyone and it's what's generally accepted even though she had an on screen relationship with a woman.

I just feel the way they portrayed it on the show cheapened what Willow had with Oz...like it wasn't real, or fake.

Would someone really suddenly one day REJECT one sex in favor of another? (That is an actual question.) Because ever after Tara, they portrayed Willow as completely 100% not interested sexually in guys.
 
I ship Woz and I wasn't offended by Willow claiming that she has decided that she is now Gay.

And I think that loving someone of the same/opposite gender is not the same as being sexually attracted to someone of the same/opposite gender. I personally define sexual orientation by sexual attraction, not love.

I'd say yes. If you'd never been with someone of the same or opposite sex before and then gave it a go and it just clicked perfectly for you in a way that it had never worked before then sure, why go back if you found something you prefer and identify with more?

It's not Willow being gay that offends me, it's the way they treated the Willow-Oz relationship

I just don't buy that you can be attracted to one sex one day and then stop being attracted to them the next. Seems far-fetched to me. But even if it is possible, should they have turned Oz and Willow into a brother-sister/friend sort of love? Probably not.

It's like say, "Oh Buffy never loved Angel, she only ever really loved Spike." Pfft. 😉 😛

Oh, yeah, I understood that. I guess I just felt like (although I adored it) Woz was over and they both needed to move on so it didn't bug me that Willow moved on.

Or maybe she didn't realize what attraction really means. It took me, personally, a really long time to learn the difference between being attracted to someone and finding someone attractive. I thought I like guys because I found them attractive. I can appreciate the attractiveness of a guy... but I'm not attracted to them. I think that's something that may have been an issue for Willow. Also... I think Willow was romantically in love with Oz. But there are different kinds of romantic love. There's the romantic love that is just that... and then there's the romantic love with the sexual component. I think what Willow had with Oz was more emotional rather than emotional and physical.

I've definitely been in a position before where I was dating someone and was attracted to them and then something happened (he cheated, I met someone completely opposite who I never would've considered before) and it was so not attracted to him anymore, ever again...or anyone remotely similar to him, especially when I found someone I truly clicked with. Attraction turns on and off to me.

And duh...buffy never loved spike in the first place. Bangel Forever all the way. 😉
 
If Willow decided she was gay I'm all for that. I think [MENTION=6330]arabella[/MENTION] pretty much said all I had to say in this matter. Really well put!
 
It was always very clear to me that Willow was bisexual. Vamp Willow proved that to me. I don't see the issue.
 
And remember that Willow was about 20 when she met Tara...and that's usually when you get sure of your sexuality! I'm sure she thought that she loved Oz but when Tara came up she just said to herself "Oh, so is this how's supposed to feel?!" and went all the way down to gayland.

Well I don't think she just thought she loved Oz. I'm pretty sure she loved him. But it was a different kind of love. And when she fell in love with Tara, I'm pretty sure it hit her differently.

I could see all of that but it was poorly explained. The show just made it seem like Willow fell in love with Tara but retained her attraction to Oz and Giles in S4 and then in mid-S5 just woke up gay, making jokes about the penis-monster like, "If I wasn't gay *before*" in sharp contrast to spurty knowledge-type metaphors finding their way into her conversations.

Willow's change from still being attracted to guys to being gay was way poorly explained. Also, I don't know if it's the WB's censors or AH's discomfort with playing a lesbian or AB seeming very dour and non-sexual but I don't get this, "It's obvious that Willow felt a physical attraction with Tara that she never did with Oz and Xander." Still even with that criticism of the story put aside, I agree with Dagenspear that Vamp Willow being fully in command of her sexuality and being completely bisexual throws a spanner into the "Willow is gay" argument. I've met Vamp Willow. Vamp Willow is, well not friend, but appreciated titillating TV character of mine. If Vamp Willow wasn't being fully sexually satisfied, she'd drop Vamp Xander as a mate or her sadistic-sexual games with Puppy!Angel and find a girl to do it with.

Oh, I'm sure. Look how in Doppelgangland, Vamp Willow goes after Sandy, Fresh Meat!Cordelia and Kinda Like the Idea of the Two of Us!Willow. This is a creature who totally knows that she likes girls. But the thing is that Vamp Willow also clearly likes guys too. If Vamp Willow knew that she liked girls and was thus gay, don't you think she'd drop Vamp Xander like a hot potato or find a girl to play with instead of Puppy!Angel?
