Hi! I am doing a paper on Joss Whedon and Buffy for my Women's Gender Studies class. I cam across all of this and just HAD to join. I'm really excited to be a part of this community! I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend so far! I can't wait to get caught up on everything going on and hopefully making some friends. =]

Ooh, welcome. I'm glad you found us, it's always interesting to hear how BB has been discovered. Welcome to the site, I'm Savannah. 🙂

Hello and welcome. What's the paper about exactly? Sounds interesting!

Thanks! =] My paper is on Feminism, how Joss is a feminist and how that is portrayed in Buffy. My boyfriend is lending me his Psychology of Joss Whedon Book to help me out. It's not due for another month so I haven't started writing it yet. Just started trying to get ideas on how to go about writing it and what I should include in the paper. =]

Hi CBM! :welcome: to the boards. Glad you found us. Hope we get to see you around and good luck with the paper.

Oooh there are definitely some pretty strong opinions about that subject here. You could maybe start a thread to ask opinions, if you are interested that is. I also recommend the dated but still relevant Backlash by Susan Feludi. I don't know how heavily assigned that is nowadays so forgive me if it's a "well durr" recommendation. She has a whole chapter on women in TV.

WELCOME!!!! And good luck with the paper! I always wanted to find a way to integrate Buffy into one of my school papers, but it never really worked with my major.....the closest I have got is that I want to one day teach, and have already planned when I am teaching NAS 101 (Native American Studies) as I will someday do to have the class right before thanksgiving focus on stereotyping as an excuse to watch the Thanksgiving episode of Buffy in season 4. You know, so we can "discuss" the stereotypes seen in that episode. Or just so I can make people watch Buffy.

Anywhoo, welcome again!

That sounds like an awesome idea!!! Apparently there used to be a class taught on my campus that was all about Buffy, but they haven't been offering it the last few years. I'm seriously disappointed. There are some vampire clubs on campus I've been told, and my boyfriend said I should start the "Vampire Slayer" club and all we do is watch Buffy and scare the vampire club kids. I would never do it, of course, but it was a fun idea. =] Thanks for the welcome!

Hey! I'm Becky. Welcome to the boards.

Your paper sounds really interesting! I hope you post here for us to read when you're done with it.

Oh man! I'm not the best writer. Maybe I'll throw up what I'm going to basically be talking about and ask for some ideas...and if I feel confident I'll put it up for all to read. =] I'm always really nervous about what people will say about my writing style and such.

But thanks! I'm excited about it anyway =]
