I’m a newcomer to the boards and I’m so excited to participate in a positive community. I love Buffy and discovered it last year, having also purchased a ton of the comics! I hope to start buying some of the novels as well and giving those a read, despite their….dodgy quality. Nice to meet you all!

Hey, welcome. Thought I'd make some suggestions...I'll say a little about them so you can decide if it's something you'd like. While I like the novels better than the comics, most were less than I hoped for.

One exception was Tales of the Slayers, especially the sometimes tragic tales of the Cruciamentum (one of them featuring Nikki Wood), with more on what it's like to "awaken" as a vampire, along with what happens when a Slayer becomes a vampire (so much better than the comic of a Japanese Slayer turned vampire).

One other I liked enough that I wish it had replaced Go Fish (it happens right around that time), one in which Spike's alienation from Angelus and wanting his revenge is made complete, what the Mayor was doing in season 2 (and his connection to Snyder...and his mother, now a demon), and Snyder's backstory, along with what it's like for a child vampire.

There was one novel that I liked, but unlike the above examples, it felt too disconnected from both Buffy and Angel to me. Still, it was a fun crossover, IMO, and also more on Doyle (I can't remember and the book was stolen from me years ago, but I think Doyle's evil father, a member of the Scourge, is in it). Here it is:

And I'm not a fan of the comics, a few exceptions (that take place in the TV seasons) aside, but even they didn't get me into the comic buying obsession (and I do buy comics, mostly manga, but Buffy comics don't normally do it for me, and it annoys me how outright, must be deliberate, misleading some are on the back about the content).

But this one is an exception...it feels like the TV show rather than like comics, and it links season 5 Buffy to 6 (how Willow got the ressurrection spell, how the Buffybot wasn't enough for Dawn, how Spike learned of the place to take the trials that would later get him a soul, etc):

I have the old DH omnibus series, and I believe Death of Buffy is included in there. Haven’t gotten to the one that has it (Vol. 7 I think?) but I am definitely interested to see how the comics fill in the gaps
Welcome to the forum! As fan forums go, this place is more civil and intelligent than most. Do you have any favourite characters or plots? Have you watched Angel?

Absolutely! I love all of the Scoobies, but Giles and Spike are definitely my favs, followed closely by Willow. I honestly would put the Mayor on there too, but that’s probably cheating because who doesn’t love him?

I have watched Angel, and I enjoy it as well. Not as much as I love Buffy, but it definitely has a lot of greatness in it. I don’t love Angel as a character, but the show itself is really strong and has some fantastic episodes. I Will Remember You is still one of the only times I can remember actually crying at a TV show!

If by plots you mean seasons/episodes, absolutely! I think Season 3 is perfect, and episodes like Helpless and Revelations are still among my favs, but somehow Season 5 is beyond perfect. Both storylines are absolutely incredible IMHO!

Hey and welcome to the boards! Everyone is so nice and there is always something to do, welcome to the Buffy Boards family! <3

Actually, the full moon was yesterday, so we may bite for a day or two more, but after that it's all clear until the next full moon approaches.

Sorry about that . Moon madness * Beer* got hold of me & i forgot . My Bad .

Welcome. Nice to see a new face around.

Like your name. Made me think of a villain with the same name from Sonic the Comic UK.

Buffy is my second favourite tv series behind The Fugitive (the 1960s series).
I’m not a Spuffy fan, though I love most Buffy/Spike scenes in the series.

Thank you! I was surprised it wasn’t taken given the simplicity.
I’ve already enjoyed reading some of your thoughts and posts! But formally…

Welcome to the boards!

I see you being an amazingly thoughtful and active member and I’m excited for the discussions you will bring! 🥰

Initiation Question: What do you believe was the most essential function of Anya’s character?

@Cohen Thank you so much! I try to be polite and kind 🙂 People come here to have fun, y’know?

To answer your question, she was a fantastically executed way to push Xander’s character in new directions. I think a lot of people, myself included at one time, can relate to Xander’s feelings of being unsuccessful and left behind.

Anya (on top of being hilarious and fantastic) was a great way to make Xander strive to become someone. He has feelings of ineptitude in earlier seasons, to be sure. However, it intensifies after he gets serious with Anya and causes him to do some serious introspection. He still failed at times, but his relationship with Anya taught him to be a better person overall.

Some people think Anya was a way to bring Cordelia back into the show in a sense . What do you think ?

@ChaseRules maybe, but Anya fulfills a bit of a different role than Cordelia. If anything, Anya is more like a secondary Giles with her extensive magical and demonic knowledge than she is a replacement for Cordy.

Let’s be honest, nobody could ever replace the beautiful Queen Bee 😉

Welcome! As a fellow newbie, I can attest to the fun to be had here. If you're so inclined, show us your comic collection in the collectables area? From one collectible geek to another hehe.
