I need some advice. So, I really want the BtVS video games, but sadly I only have N64 and NES. And I'm cheap. Therefore I'm waiting for a big price drop on the current systems, when I shall purchase one. ONE. Now, my question is, PS2 or Xbox? The only games I really care about are the Buffy ones and GTA: Vice City. And GameCube is just stupid (right?). Now, the first Buffy game is only for Xbox. So that's where I was leaning towards, until I went to Amazon.com to check out the games and the Xbox Chaos Bleeds had a rating of a full star lower than the GameCube version (1/2 star lower than PS2 version). Is there any significance to this? Or are Xbox users just harsher critics? I also just found out the GTA double pack (includes Vice City) is now available for Xbox, so that steers me away from the necessity for PS2 a bit. Any suggestions?

Okay... everyone knows which way I'd lead towards...

Xbox all the way, for one the first Buffy title was alot better then Chaos Bleeds, I still play the first title, the second went back to the store so i could get my money back, the camera stuck and it was just unforgiveable.... another reason to get the Xbox is 'Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic' Now i'm no star wars fan but this game is addictive when it comes to the RPG element and if yer a fan of RPGs the game will have a sequel as well as another title along the same lines set in the orient on the way 🙂 Combat system is fantastic too.

Also Xbox Live, if you have Broadband internet, gaming doesn't get much better then this... talking to people as you pummel them into the ground or infact use team tactics when it comes to games like Ghost Recon, Wolfenstein or Rainbow Six... communication turns out to be the key on live 🙂

GameCube has resident evil which is also fantastically scary and is cheap but Xbox if yer in it for the long haul... PS2 has shoddy DVD playback and the likes... the plus side of the Xbox is the only peripheral you need to buy is the DVD remote if you want to use it as a DVD player, no shoddy Memory cards because you have a hard drive built in which can also store your CD's which you can then in turn use as custom soundtracks in selected games like Project Gotham Racing 2, Amped. Counter Strike and a bunch more... 😀

I'd also read what the people rating the item have to say about why they rate it as they do. Some ratings can be dismissed, others given more weight--by you!

I have to say Xbox, the graphics are better, and pretty soon the PS3 will be coming out...so you may not want to buy the PS2 just yet.

No, no no no no no no no no no!

Yes the Xbox has both Buffy games, the PS2 has DVD and all that (and well yes the XBox) but the GameCube is far from 'stupid'. It's all personal choice, but I chose GameCube because.

a)It's cheap (£80)
b)It's Nintendo (who have never failed me)
c)It has good exclusive games (Mario Kart, Zelda etc)
d)2nd Shortest load times (Next to Xbox, which has a hard drive so thats why it's quicker

As I said, its personal choice but dont call the GameCube stupid

(Rant over)

Well, as one of the lucky few who owns all three systems, I say that you can't really make a bad choice. One thing to note if Buffy games are really a deciding factor for you is that I've read several reviews of Chaos Bleeds that rated the PS2 version of that title as being a little clunkier than the XBox or GameCube. I have the GameCube version, and it's very smooth - love that game. If you're not a mega-gamer and you already have a DVD player, then I think GameCube is a great choice; it's significantly less expensive than XBox or PS2, and it has all those great Nintendo games (like Mario and Legend of Zelda) that you can't find on the other two platforms. PS2, on the other hand, has BY FAR the widest selection of games available, and platform exclusive titles like Final Fantasy X and Fatal Frame. I'm not sure I agree with The First Evil about PS2's "shoddy" DVD playback...it's not exactly a top of the line progressive-scan player, but I haven't had any problems playing anything in mine, including bootleg DVD-Rs of Buffy Season 6 & Season 7 (shhh!). XBox is also a great platform, and it certainly has the prettiest graphics of the three (although all of 'em look great), but I'd vote PS2 over XBox just because the PS2 catalog is so much larger, and you can pick up so many amazing PS2 games (GTAIII, Silent Hill, FFX, Kingdom Hearts) for $19.99.

Yeah but games like Silent Hill and GTA now appear on the Xbox so the choice is clear... I 'd say yes if you're a US citizen get the gamecube but if yer in the UK or Europe I wouldn't bother now, its dieing a slow and painful death and Cube Europe are not helping things by cancelling and delaying key titles in the Cube Catalogue...

PS3 may be on the way but so is Xbox 2... both are set for a first quarter 2005 release and I'm expecting both of them to be released within weeks of each other, perhaps even on the same day for medias sake 🙂... Xbox will always get my vote since its just so versatile 😀 PS2 for me only has the Final Fantasy series, those alone would tempt me but as of yet have not since Xbox will have Half Life, Halo 2, Doom 3, Silent Hill 4, Panzar Dragoon RPG, True Fantasy Live among many more titles on the way, if you look at PS2s back catalogue which has been going for years, you'll see the Xbox is quickly catching up 😀

I also have to side with the Box since I am OXM gamer of the month... so Buy it!!! lol

If you want BOTH Buffy games, go with Xbox. The first game was the better of the two anyway...they're both great though..

I don't know much about console's, I don't like them to start with. At friends I've played with some of them (Snes, N64, PS, PS2)... only thing I can tell you, is that I can't work the controls on the PlayStations. They're annoying and grrr arrgh, hate them 😀

Well, I am a definite RE fan - I have RE2 for N64 and it rocks. Too bad there are no RE games for Xbox. The DVD thing isn't a concern for me because I already have a fine DVD player. Grr, this is such a hard decision!

Well for the moment Resident Evil is a GameCube only title but I think that will change by the third to last quarter of this year. 🙂

PS2 has Resident Evil: Outbreak on the way which i myself think is better suited for Xbox Live then Playstations Shoddy online service but Xbox' online service has already established itself as the best amongst the consoles. 😀 Lots of Xbox Live games and with the options of Downloadable content too your games will always have the extra playability, New Vehicles, new Weapons, New Levels etc but Xbox Live is a Broadband only service 🙂 Must be on Broadband 😀

You do know that the PS2 is broadband as well you dolt. And what if they have 56k and can't afford the broadband connection. Plus, have you even played Socom: online? The only, and I mean only reason I'ld get an X-Box is for Halo and SW: KotOR

Hey now! No need for the "dolt", dude . . . insulting other members isn't exactly the way we do things 'round here. You've got a valid point about the PS2's broadband capabilities, but let's try to keep the friendly debate friendly!

I have heard SO many PS2 players say they WISH that their online gaming was set up like Xbox Live, for a minimal monthly fee. There is no comparison in the two console's online gaming capabilities and features.

Now to answer the poster's question...I own a Playstation, an Xbox, and my ex-roomie had a PS2.

Personally, I'd go with the Xbox. It has a large hard drive so no need for memory cards. The loading times for games and levels is minimal compared to that of a PS2. Very smooth gameplay, excellent graphics, and fantastic Xbox only titles make it my favorite.

I own the GTA double pack for Xbox, it's fantastic. Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic is amazing, like First said. alot of games that were only released on PS2 are now coming to Xbox. As well...quite a few game manufacturers that went Playstation only for their games have switched to Xbox only. A good example of this are the Oddworld titles. The first two only came out on Playstation. Now, the next 3 (or is it 4?) titles are being released for the Xbox only. And they are fantastic games!

One other thing..the first Buffy is only available on Xbox. I find it to be FAR superior to Chaos Bleeds...it would be a shame to spend money on a console and not be able to play the original Buffy!

Xbox live is set up as broadband only to keep Lag to an all time low, people playing online gaming that uses voice communication over a 56k connection would have SERIOUS problems. Microsoft is only thinking of its gamers... as for people not being able to afford broadband well there are plenty of offline games out there to keep ya happy...

But if you are going for online play too, with the Xbox you won't need to buy a Hard Drive, Modem etc to use their gaming service, just pay for the Xbox Live service in store, a years Subscription, Head Set and Demo games for £30 -40 😀

Xbox Xbox Xbox!!! 😀

As you should red, I have the power to get one of my many admin women to ban the anti Xbox people lol 🙂 But I'd never abuse my power.... Just theirs 😀
