For my class this quarter - The History of the English Language - I have chosen to do my project/report/presentation on blogs and the overall effect they have on reducing the formality of English nowadays.

I need your help!

Questions:

Do you read blogs? If so, which ones? Do you offically "follow" them or do you just check them out here and there? Do you post comments on them? What 'category' of blogs would you say do you read most often?

Okay, here we go.

I have a blog (Thoughts of a Snarky Writer) and there are a bunch of blogs that I follow religiously. I do "follow" them if Blogger will let me (sometimes it has trouble with LJ or Wordpress), mostly because I got tired of clicking through a list every day and only maybe 4 of them having updates.

Here's the ones I read the most often:

Geoffrey Chaucer Hath a Blog
LIT SOUP
Montana For Real
Neil Gaiman's Journal
Postmodern Sass
Query Shark
Rate Your Students
Robin McKinley
(W)ords and (W)ardances

Oh, and I do comment if I feel like I have something intelligent to say and it won't get me caught up in a flame war. 🙂
 
I subcribe for updates on some blogs at MySpace, mostly different bands and artists that I like and want to know what they are up to.

But if they update too often it gets annoying and I remove the subscription and just check it whenever I remember which usually isn't that often.

Don't think I've ever followed a blog that wasn't a band or an artist.

Off-topic for just a second, I noticed on your blog your current reading is listed as A Clash of Kings. How are you liking it or how did you like it? I really enjoyed that series or what's been done of it so far.

I have an LJ, does that count? lol

I have a friends on my flist there whose journals I read and comment on. I use my LJ as an actual journal, which is why it's private and only my friends can read it.

I don't subscribe to anyone other blogs, although I am on Christian Kane's mailing list, 'cause I'm nosy, and I, like, NEED to know when his new album's coming out, lol.

Kane is going to be at a convention in Portland, near here in Seattle.
Nik at Nite, Nikki Stafford's blog, is very funny and entertaining.

She has written many guides to shows, such as Buffy, Angel, Alias, Xena, and Lost.

At different periods I've been into Media, Climate, or Political blogs.

I don't read a ton of blogs... ones I check on at least a weekly basis include:

Kung Fu Monkey [TV producer John Rogers -- "Leverage"]
BuffyFest [Buffy and Whedon related stuff]
FiveThirtyEight.com [political analysis]
Huffington Post [political group blog]
Whedonesque

And a selection of LiveJournal pages, mainly Buffy related.
