Help with creating shelves for buff fig

Some of you know I collect a lot of Buffy figures, well atleast as many as I can, not alot I guess. And I want to display them but finding the right curio cabinet is very hard where I live and ordering them is ver costly. I would rather put the money towards new figures.
I have book shelves but turning them into Buffy displays wouldn't be so great because of dust build-up. No matter how much you dust your figures are still going to get dusty. Then I was thinking, what about putting some kind of plexi glass or something over the bookshelf, like hinge it on or something as a door.

Does anyone here have any good ideas on how to make something for my figures to display them properly?
 
Print out small pictures of a theme you want for the particular figure. Podgy them onto your shelf. Spread resin (get if from a crafts store) over the podgied pictures for that plastic sheen. Add your glass doors then.

Basically though, wander around craft and hardware stores. You'll get a ton of ideas. What you can do to an old shelf is kind of amazing.
 
I was looking into resin but I couldn't find any photos that could give me an idea of it. Sounds like a good idea tho, what you have posted. I will go to lowes, you think lowes would be ok?

I don't know Lowes. Do you have those big mega hardware stores? Lots of stuff there.

I did this thing one time where I took an old bookshelf apart, made the wood look like marble, and strung the shelves together with chains, over mirrors, and a wood grill. Looked pretty nifty.
