Help with screen captures!

Does anyone know how to take screen captures from DVDs, I have been trying but every time I do it:

a)And the windows media player window is still on, and I try and move the picture it does not move the picture it just moves around, even to a bit I did not select. Example, I take a screen shot of Buffy from an episode of Buffy and I select the picture to be taken around her head. Then if I move it around (The saved picture) I could go down to her feet, even though I did not take a picture of the feet! (Did that make sense)

b) As soon as I close The Windows Media Player Window The saved picture is just black!

There's something in the dvd that makes it so that you can't take pictures straight from Media Player. If you have a movie maker program that lets you load other movies (Like Windows Movie Maker) then you can take pictures from that.
