which TV theme songs really stand out for you?

(We'll exclude BtVS and Angel from the discussion, since we know right off the bat a lot of people will say them.)

Here's mine:

*The Equalizer: GREAT work from Stewart Copeland, and the title sequence puts you right in the mood;basically, this ain't your dad's spy show.

*Babylon 5: It changed its theme every season, but it still sounded epic.

*The Sopranos: No explanation needed.

*Doctor Who: A number of title changes, and some have worked better than others. But when you hear the music sting, you know you've arrived at the TARDIS.

*House: It does sound downbeat, but it still adds to the overall tone of the show and main character.

*The Tudors: A touch mournful, but still very good.

Smallville- It's an ace song and the way it's edited for the credits is very fitting for the man of steel.

All I can think of at the mo. If I recall more ill post.

That certainly would be a worthy addition to the list.
I agree completely with House. Teardrop is a great song, and it compliments the character perfectly.

I also think Tru Callings was nice and fitting. Especially if you have a dvd player that still plays sound at 1.5 x speed. Then it's just awesome! Honourable mention to Ally McBeal too, mainly due to how they used Vonda Shepherd in the show. And the Tracy Ulman joke about it being a sucky theme song.

One for the brits: the Skins series one theme music. Still my ringtone after all this time.

I loving the sig line!
I like the Prison Break theme, dunno what gets me about it but it's like the Buffy theme gets me riled up and in the mood to watch the program.

I like BONES because my husband and I take turns doing the "Bones Boogie"
I also like Monk and Pysch.
I like all the CSI ones and Cold Case is nifty too.
Law and Order and Saving Grace get stuck in my head too.

Then there's the Dukes of Hazzard and The Greatest American Hero, those are just FABULOUS!

And since we didn't count out Firefly, I'll add that one too!

The "Bones Boogie?" Actually....I don't think I want to know!
I really like the music in Heroes; it doesn't necessarily have a theme song, but the Indian music they play is strangely appropriate. It really fits the mood they're going for.

And I absolutely adore the Firefly theme. I don't know why, because I don't like country music, but I just love it. And it really couldn't fit the show any better. It's one of the few shows where I never skip past the opening credits.

Most of my favorite tv themes are from before just about everyone here's time, but I always liked the "Peter Gunn" theme, and "Hawaii Five-o." The "Highlander" theme was good, and any of the various "Star Trek" themes. I loved all of the themes from the old westerns, but no one remembers them anymore. God, I feel old sometimes!

I, too, love the Scrubs theme song. So catchy. I also love The Office theme song. Kind of elevator-music, but whenever I hear it, I know exactly what it is.

That 70s Show has a catchy opening song too.

The Office and Arrested Development theme songs are just iconic. It's not even that I like them that much, I just perk up whenever I hear them.

The 4400 and Weeds! The 4400's theme songs (because yes, there are two) are just so fitting. The first shows the sadness and, well, so does the second, but they both do it in different ways. Love the way the intro (song and visual) shows the passing of times.

Weeds is just great. Little Boxes is a great song lyric-wise anyway, and it's fun to hear the new version of it in every post-season-one episode. Though some of them are just a bit off, imo. The lyrics fit the whole suburbia thing perfectly, because, well... the song is about suburbia. And the show is too. So it works!

4400 one IS good. I always forget it until it comes on again though.
so me it's gotta be the theme songs from FRIENDS (I still to this day cannot watch them, or even just hear the song without doing the clapping) and Veronica Mars
both are happy I guess and always get me ready for teh shows 🙂

:thought:

but i really like the tru calling, veronica mars, csi and heros theme

Five by Five agrees: The "Bones Boogie?" Actually....I don't think I want to know!

It comes on at 8pm! The KIDS aren't even in bed then!
Bones just has a fun theme to Boogie too!
Well, I think it does. We think it does......
🙁
Okay, we're sad people who don't get out a lot. We gotta get our jollies where we can.

I'm not sharing with you people ANY MORE!::uh::

The L word. That song was just soooo addictive. And ever tried singing along? it's impossible, lol.
Oh, and when I was younger I really liked the Student Bodies one, if anyone knows the show (it's old, it's Canadian, but it just ruled)

The Doctor Who theme. No matter how many times they change it you can always hear it and think 'Yeah, that's Doctor Who'
And the VM one, it's really catchy. I heard my parents singing it the other day XD

Is WA really the only one to mention the StarTrek themes/fanfares? Can't help but love them. Gotta exclude "Enterprise", however. Lyrics in a StarTrek theme does NOT work for me, unless I improvize a cheering (TNG) or mocking (Voy) lyrics to sing along myself, lol. But, well, I don't really count "Enterprise" as TrekProper anyway. They ruined the legacy (and, let's face it, the franchise) with that show.
