Joss has brought back a lot of old characters this season: The Initiative, Amy, Warren, Dracula, Fray and soon Harmony. At first this annoyed me but I think he's doing this to confuse us. I've noticed everyone guessing who Twilight is gonna be. Here's my guess: he's a completely new character. Wouldn't Buffy recognize Riley's or Caleb's(just for example) voice? Maybe all these characters are returning to make us think that the same will happen for the Big Bad, when really it's just a new character. I apologize if there's already a thread like this.
 
There sort of is. Speculating on who the Big Bad is is a House competition. Your best bet is to go get sorted and bring this speculation up with your housemates so you can hash it over and use it in the competition. 🙂
 
Umm... I guess... I never really thought of it this way, I just figured it was a new character... :/
 
I think so, too. It's hard to tell with Whedon, though; it seems to be an even run between brand-new-character Big Bads and old-character Big Bads.
 
I always figured it was new character...until the big reveal came where he goes to take off his mask, but just scratches an itch (on that topic...lol). Why we even care about the reveal unless it was someone we know. Of course this could all just be a big misdirect...but then that cheapens the final result if its revealed that the big bad is a nobody.
 
Whoever Twilight is, the mere fact that he wears a mask, unlike any of the previous Big Bads in the Buffyverse, would suggest that his face is at least familiar to Buffy or some of her friends (that, or Joss has just been exposed to the X Men for too long)
 
He might just really like masks. Or (God forbid) he has burns or scars on his face, but I hope that's not it, because it's the worst cliché in the history of predictable storylines.
 
Why would a mask be worn?
So that no-one will see that you are disfigured, regardless of them knowing you or not.
To help with a part that doesn't work properly, such as they eyes.
To have a private life.

Joss may have that character in a mask just so that people will keep guessing who it is, so why disclose who it is? ever?
