Anybody else in LA feel it? It wasn't huge, but it definitely got our attention. I was checking on my brother's kitteh, when all of a sudden, he ran under the bed. The earthquake hit a few minutes later. 5.3 on the Richter scale.

Wonder if it was a foreshock? 😵

I've never experienced an earthquake before :O I've always wondered what one would feel like in an open field.

The sound of rumbling going through the ground; if its a horizontal effect. Now if its a vertical effect, its gonna be heading for you, not the sort of earthquake to experience, that'd reduce the likelihood of a long life.
5.3 is that all?
Ahh, poor old America.

Athene,
I experienced a horizontal that travelled several hundred kilometres through the ground and then it made the skyscrapers sway.

Oh dear
I hope it was just a grumble and nothing earth shattering headed your way!

Amber Bunny Slippers, was that earthquake today or yesterday?

We don't get many here .. see...
You're lucky. California (and Japan) are probably the most seismically active places on the planet. 😵

I was here during the 1994 Northridge quake...I was staying with my sister, and at 4:30am it felt like someone picked up our building, shook it, then dropped it. Whoa, I cannot TELL you how violent the shaking was. It actually threw my sister out of her bed. She was hysterical, and tried to run outside but everything was moving; walls, furniture, floor...it was crazy. Luckily I was sleeping on an inflatable mattress on the floor, and wasn't tossed around too much. The shaking went on forever, plus aftershocks every ten minutes or so. Transformers blew, flashing in the sky, power was gone, and everybody on the block was outside in their night clothes...I was the only person with emergency supplies, so people huddled around my lantern and radio. It was like being in a war movie, with shell-shocked bombing survivors.

I didn't panic or freak out. I never do during emergencies. Which is funny because I do occasionally suffer from panic attacks...I'm jumpy on an average day, but when something dire occurs, I'm very calm and take charge.

That is a bit obvious isn't it? If you were there you wouldn't have been able to write that here would you?
Thankfully I'm not.

I was sleeping next to a small bookshelf during the Northridge earthquake and woke to shaking and books falling on me.

That's a lot better than having a building collapse on you. Dear God, those poor people who were flattened while they slept! Awful. 🙁
