Its weird, when Joyce Summers died Dawn was able to ressurect her but she died from natural order,so was Tara so wouldnt they be able to bring her back???
 
Because what Dawn brought back was not actually Joyce. It was a thing. Kinda like the vamp deal. It wasn't her. It was the living dead...zombie...
 
And how much fun would it be if they ressurected EVERYONE who died. And Willow and everyone else learned their lesson about bringing back the dead aftert they brang back Buffy.

The whole Joyce resurrection episode was a very well done knock off of (or homage to, in polite company) a short story called The Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs.

I think it was previously filmed as an episode of either The Twilight Zone or Outer Limits, or maybe it was just a horror flick from that era. It'd be interesting to watch the old black and white interpretation and then the Buffy episode.
 
That same short story inspired "Pet Cemetary by Stephen King. Never saw the original version of the story, but the links are very clear between PEt Cemetary and that ep of Buffy.
 
"The Monkey's Paw" is a classic short story, and one of my faves...read it first as a kid, and it scared the bejeebers out of me. BTW, remember who was guiding Dawn in the spell...Doc. Don't figure he had her best interests at heart...

I'm not familiar with the book Bite me, rene. If it's a short story anthology then the title would lead me to believe it contains only vampire stories. The Monkey's Paw doesn't have any vampires in it. If you search for The Monkey's Paw on Amazon, you'll find there are about a million horror anthologies that include it, it's old enough to be in the public domain and therefore gets reprinted a lot (no royalties to pay out for using it).

When I was in high school, we did The Monkey's Paw as a play.

I wasn't on stage, but I got to do the sound effects. I was the footsteps when whoever it was, returned from the grave and was walking up to the door.

My teacher had some old souvenir wooden shoes he brought back from Holland. I put them on my hands and went clump...clump...clump on a wood plank as the mother (I think it was) walked up to the door. It was fun.

I've heard it as a radio play too.
 
Coolness, nerd4hire. Sound effects rule. When I grow up I wanna be a foley artist, too. Or maybe a smoke jumper.

Of course, since my 30th birthday looms on the horizon, I should probably consider kicking that "when I grow up" thing into gear soonish.

I read that Monkey Paw story in school. It was pretty cool...
 
Yeah, leaving what was on the other side of the door to your imagination is way more scary than actually showing it, and the writer used it to good effect in that ep. I love this stuff...

BTW, I think "Bite Me" is a Buffyverse guide of some type, but correct me if I'm wrong.
 
we read Monkey Paw in school too, but i can't remember if we did it for english or norwigan!!
