Hi, I'm not just new to the boards, I'm actually new to the show. For years and years I dismissed Buffy the Vampire Slayer as just silly camp without ever having seen it. Back when the show was first airing, I was a HUGE fan of the X-files, and I convinced myself that there wasn't anything else good on television. Well, I was online a couple of months ago and I was reading a list of best television episodes ever; on that list I saw some Buffy episodes listed. Skeptical, I nevertheless decided to see the three listed episodes. The episodes were Restless, Hush, and the Body. With just three episodes, I was utterly hooked. I ended up buying all 7 seasons of Btvs, and after watching all of season 1, I decided to buy all 5 seasons of Angel too. I just finished season 2 of Btvs earlier this afternoon. Haven't gotten to Angel yet. While it is still too early to say, I'm getting the feeling that Btvs might challenge the X-files as my favorite tv show ever! And to think, I have so much yet to watch!

Anyway, I plan to use this board heavily. I'm really looking forward to learning everything I can about the show. I look forward to interacting with all of you in the coming months (and years). Cheers!

Welcome to the board and the Buffy community! I'm envious of you, I wish I could go back to when I saw the show for the first time, it's such an amazing roller coaster ride! Make sure to enjoy every bits of it, that first watch only happens once 😛

Just as a warning, be careful for spoilers involving the seasons that you haven't seen and maybe dodge some of the sub-forums if you don't want to be spoiled 🙂

Man, watching it all for the first time- you, my friend, are in for an epic time! I envy you. 😀

Buffy and Angel are pretty much a rollercoaster ride the first time around, and you don't even have to wait weeks to see the next ep.

Hey! Welcome to the boards. I'm so glad you've discovered Buffy. It truly will change your life. And kudos for choosing this board over the *others.* This is the best one!

However, I'd be careful on this board until you're done with both series, though. You're likely to get a spoiler.

What do you like so far about the show? Any favorite characters yet?

As for your banner, someone here could make you one.

I'm probably going to have to wait before I really start reading and posting heavily. I did see one minor spoiler already. To answer your first question, I love everything about the show! The writing is really good and consistent, and I really like the chemistry of the scooby gang. Everyone just fits so well together. Casting in general is really strong. I can't really say I like any one character most though. I like nearly everyone. I even like Angel (who I guess is kind of a love him or hate him type of guy around here). Is there somewhere I can go on this site to have someone make me a banner? What would I have to do?

one other question everyone. Would you recommend watching Angel concurrently with Btvs? As I understand it, Angel season 1 ran at the same time as Btvs season 4. Due to crossovers, will I benefit from alternating between Angel and Buffy episodes, as if I had watched the original airings on tv? Thanks.
 
About the crossover thing, watching Buffy then Angel- definitly. There's a lot of crossover in S4/5 of Buffy concurrent with the first 2 seasons of Angel. Nothing for the next season and then pretty much one big crossover in the last season of Buffy/S4 of Angel.

If you watch one after the other imo, you get more out of it. Some eps deliberatly contrast with each other and others compliment.
Without giving too much away, there is two crossovers specifically that are great. One involves two two-parters that focus on one character in particular and their...evolution/redemption (my favourite character btw 🙂 ) and the other (concentrating on two blonde vampires) that are amazing, if watched back to back with each other.
 
Lucky! I wish I could watch the series again 😛 You're in for a lot of great episodes, which in my opinion are even better than Restless or Hush. I've been on the board for a short time, but I think Angel is a character that is either really loved for some or one that is simply there and causes mild dislike for others. I think Spike definitely fits your description of a loved/hated character around here. Nevertheless they're both major characters!

I want the fullest experience possible, so that means alternating buffy/angel episodes, just like the original runs. I love crossovers; I'm looking forward to it. [MENTION=12544]NeonNightLight[/MENTION] I like Spike a lot too. I hope he survives! Season 3 so far is awesome. Season 2 was awesome too, and season 1 was really good, just a little short. And I just got introduced to Faith...hmm, not sure how I feel about her just yet. And watching Buffy's friends completely turn on her at the beginning of season 3 was so hard to watch...I really felt sorry for Buffy there. And then they make up and then Faith comes and steals their affection a little. Tough to watch. But this is exciting...the new developments are fascinating.
 
Beyond jealous of you watching the show for the first time. The impact that it had on my life is immeasurable. I can safely say, without a doubt, it will always be my favourite show. Let us know how you progress 🙂

Well, if you like Spike then I think you'll enjoy a lot of the later seasons. 🙂
Yeah, Dead Man's Party is pretty much a tough one for any fan! There aren't many eps like that one!
As for Faith...she develops in a interesting way and, imo is a fascinating character, quite different from Buffy (as you'll no doubt see). And watch out for 'Revelations'. It's kinda about the two slayers and I'm sure you'll end up feeling sorry for one or the other of them by the end. 🙁

Like the others, I wish I could disvover the shownow. I was a kid when I saw Buffy for the first time and it took me years to watch it all. I've watched all the episodes plenty of times since, but I don't really remember how it felt to see it for the first time. You're in for a great adventure!
This show had such an impact on my life!
Have fun and keep posting your feelings and sharing your thoughts. It's nice to read!

Welcome to BTVS and the boards!! Be warned: once you get into Buffy, there is no getting out! Also, when you talk about the characters like you personally know them, you will get weird looks--but they're totally worth it! Have fun here 🙂
