Hello,

I know this is hard to believe, but I am a new Buffy fan. I watched the show a long time ago but never got into it. However, I recently watched all of it on Netflix, and can't believe it took me so long to watch this AMAZING series.

I do have a question, and maybe its been asked before. But I wonder in the episode of "Something Blue" when Buffy made the comment that "something is missing" if anyone wonder its a reference to "I will remember you"? I know it may not be a new question, but I am NEW =p

What up hyl ? Welcome to the boards. As to your question, it's not something I've ever heard before but the chronology certainly fits. IWRY aired the week before Something Blue, so you could be right about that.

I don't remember the part you're talking about, but I tend to agree with pieceofgosa; since IWRY aired the week before Something Blue, you could be onto something...
 
This was bugging me so I watched Something Blue. The quote is as follows:
Buffy (talking about Riley): I don't know. I really like being around him, you know? And I think he cares about me.. but.. I just.. feel like something's missing.

Willow: He's not making you miserable?

Buffy: Exactly. Riley seems so solid. Like he wouldn't cause me heartache.

Willow: (Fake worry) Get out. Get out while there's still time.

Buffy: I know.. I have to get away from that bad boy thing. There's no good there. Seeing Angel in LA.. even for five minutes.. hello to the pain.

Willow: The pain is not a friend.

In context it doesn't sound like that's what is being alluded to, saying that it does come three lines before she mentions seeing Angel in LA, so... I dunno, that's what great about these shows I guess. They always get you thinking.

Its been bothering me LOL, I was hoping there is some kinda commentary on that. At least now I know I'm not alone. Thanks for all the warm welcome.
 
Hi and :welcome: After seeing the quote in context it feels like she just admits that the real spark between her and Riley isn't there. So in my mind it has nothing to do with IWRY. But that's just one persons opinion so that doesn't mean that it's right.

No, Buffy is not referring to IWRY. I think it's pretty obvious what Buffy is alluding too; what's "missing" in her relationship with Riley is all the heartache, sacrifice, drama, and pain that characterized her relationship with Angel.
Later, she says "part of me believes that real love and passion have to go hand in hand with pain and fighting", meaning that, to Buffy, love cannot exist without suffering.

God, how medieval.

Interesting observation, I've never thought about that before. Due to the context, I agree with Joan, but it also may be one of those sly little double meaning things that Joss slips in to make us think. 😀

Welcome to the boards :smile3:, interesting observation but i'am with Joan, i just think she's explaining how there isn't the spark with Riley like there was with Angel.
 
Yeah I know it context, it certainly feels like Buffy is just saying its missing a spark with Riley. But when I was watching it, the way Buffy says that line there was a pause and she was trying to recall (just an observation). When Willow says "He is not making you miserable?", Buffy quickly agrees. I thought Buffy didn't know what it is and so she just quickly agrees with Willow, not giving it another thought. I guess, I'm a sucker for romance - deep down I wish some part of her held on to that lost day.

And like what pieceofgosa said, Buffy mentioned this several lines after she brings up about her visiting Angel in LA. So I'm hopeful, trying to find some resolution to this tragic episode that put me in depression for the past few weeks....did I mention I am new to Buffy; hence, the suffering of withdrawals and denial that the series is over?
