This should come as no surprise to anyone who knows my surname is MacLeod (actually not sure anyone here does, but still, lol) but i'm a huge Highlander fan. It was one of the first fantasy concepts that i really grew attached to and i've seen all the movies, the television series and the Raven spinoff too. Thing was that after the last movie, Endgame, it looked as if the franchise was dead. Ironic, really, considering that the show was about people that couldn't die.

However it looks as if the franchise is living up to the nature of it's story and coming back to life. Filming has just ended on a fifth Highlander movie, called The Source, which is supposed to be the first of a new trilogy that will deal with the origin of the Immortals. It is set within the continuity of the television series and Endgame, rather than that of the original Highlander trilogy, and will feature many of the favourite characters from the series, including Duncan, Methos and Joe Dawson. Unfortunately, it looks like the rumours of Chris Lambert returning to the role of Connor MacLeod didn't come true. The character died in Endgame but it was a possibility that he may feature in some flashback scenes. Shame it didn't come about, at least not in this first movie anyway.

Now, to add to the good news, there is going to be an ongoing comic book series telling stories from both the series continuity and the original movie continuity as well. The story is at Newsarama.

2006 definately looks good for us Highlander fans. Hopefully a lot more people will discover the franchise too, with the new movie and comics. It deserves a lot more respect than it gets, i reckon.

I used to love highlander, but then when Adrian Paul stopped all of it i kinda backed away from it although i still seen the movies it just didnt interest me as much... but it seems like it'll be an ok movie...
