General Spoilers:

07/20 - Taking a cue from their own personal lives, as they often do, Carter [Bay] and Craig [Thomas] bought homes this past year, and some of that pain will spill over into the show: "One of the sort of general arcs of the season is Marshall and Lily dealing with their housing situation. We want to do the story of Marshall and Lily buying an apartment in New York and making every mistake you can possibly make. We're also going to deal with Marshall's career. He just graduated from law school. He wants to be an environmental lawyer. He's going to find out that when you have $100,000 in law school debt, that's maybe not the best financial decision." 07/19 - [Exec producer Craig] Thomas hints that this season we'll meet the woman that stole Barney's virginity. And she sounds frightening. There'll be lots of drama (and comedy) when Marshall and Lily purchase their first New York apartment. Marshall's work issues will also take center stage when he realizes that environmental law may not be the most lucrative career path. Wayne Brady will reprise his role as Barney's gay bro in a flashback episode that shows him "before he was gay... and very macho and over-compensating." Source: The Ausiello Report

07/19 - Executive producer Craig Thomas says we're going to meet Rhonda, the 45-year-old pal of Barney's mom, to whom Barney lost his virginity. "She smells like menthol cigarettes," previews Thomas. "We're going to see that story and what it does to Barney in the present day." Source: TV Squad
07/18 - There'll be more clues about the mother on HIMYM [this season]. Source: The Ausiello Report

06/23 - We hear the network is asking focus groups if they would prefer to see Ted and Robin dating or just being friends for next season. Source: Kristin on E!Online

08/21 - After Enrique [Iglesias] says hasta luego, Robin continues to play the field. I'm hearing she starts dating a single dad, in fact. Plus, Ted's moving on, too. He and Barney go toe-to-toe trying to land the same lady. But it won't be a serious thing. More of the "I'm better than you" sort of competition you'd expect from the Barnicle. 09/15 - [Ted will be sporting a beard, which] represents the evolution of [his] breakup with Robin. Apparently, he'll be going through something of a dark phase this year. "Basically, this is Ted's lost weekend," says [...] Craig Thomas. [...] Robin's presence should guarantee another appearance from Robin Sparkles -- her '90s Canadian teen-pop-star alter ego -- and possibly a touching breakup ballad shot in black and white on a beach. [...] Marshall and Lily will take tentative steps toward adulthood -- including a disastrous experience with buying an apartment. We'll learn more about Barney's sordid hippie past, plus he may land a girlfriend of his own. And all the characters will face what [Carter] Bays calls a "life-changing moment," playing into "the ideas of this show, about destiny and free will and how little control we have over our own lives." [...] There's also the continuation of the Slap Bet, a running gag from the Robin Sparkles episode in which Marshall retains permission to slap Barney three more times (out of an original give). 01/02 - [When asked why it looks like Lily and Marshall still live with Ted,] executive producer Carter Bays [says:] "As is often the case, buying the place is only the first step in a long process before Lily and Marshall can call their new apartment home. It's never as easy as just plunking down the money and getting the keys, especially in New York. There's details to sort out, minor repairs to be made, and of course the dreaded co-op interview. We haven't forgotten about Dowisetrepla. We'll definitely be back, most likely in our next original episode." Source: USA Today's Pop Candy

11/27 - "Robin and Barney are very good together," [says HIMYM boss Craig Thomas]. "Their scenes together are great. The cool thing is, we can explore their chemistry by having the two of them go out and kind of be each other's wingman. We know we're going to do that." When asked for a straight answer on the possibility of a Barney-Robin romance, Craig says: "Can't comment on that." Source: Kristin on E!Online
