If you could have lived durring any one time period in history when and where would that be?
 
I'm parital to either feudal Japan, circa 1600ad, or ancient Greece, around 2000bc. However, I realize after reading Michael Crichton's Timeline that I'd survive about 20 seconds if transported there now, and if perchance I was to be born in those times, I'd likely already be dead...
 
I think that iw ould like to go back to Acient Egypt although i dont think that i would last too long lol.

Hmm, lets see, I actually think that we're in the best period because be4 women had no right & so on, so it wouldn' have been fun.
But if I had to choose one, I would take the XVIII century, because or the early XIX coz it's was the period with the romantics movement, & I would have like to meet Rimbaud, Verlaine, & the impressionists painters.
 
TOUGH QUESTION! I'd love to spend time in a billion different eras/places, but if I had to pick just one, I'd go with Los Angeles in the 1920's. Interesting time - the Hollywood studio system was just being born, silent films were in their heyday (the first "talkie" came out in 1926). Imagine making movies when everyone had to come up with their own ideas, 'cause there were no Ben Hurs or Casablancas or Citizen Kanes yet to show people how to do it right! No script pitches that claimed, "It's like Die Hard...on a boat!". That'd kick so much ass. I'd love to be a filmmaker in that era.
 
My pick would be, now and here!

What can I say I love progression, although all other times sound appealing, their are so many civil rights and social injustices I'd have to fight for and against. I'll just stick with now.

If forced to choose, I'd say Europe WWII, I'd join the resistance.
 
I'd like to live in Ancient Rome. They didn't have to work, just go to the baths and chill all day, then maybe go watch some killing at the coliseum. That'd be nice.
 
I think that the roaring 20's sounds nice. I'd go see LD's movies.

I'd also like to see what it was like during the early 1700's. Some progression, but not to much industrialization....
 
Well! I love this! All the different answers and ideas! BEAUTIFUL! Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the time I wish to be a part of was somewhere around 1300 or so...I just want to ride a horse, sword drawn and fighting like a wild beast! I was under the impression that what I was thinking was somewhere between 1280 and 1300. I know there are true history buffs here so if I'm under the WRONG impression feel free to correct me! But I wanna battel in armor on horseback...that would be awesome!

I don't really know but I'd like to have been in Japan (1598-1867). The wife of a Samurai. 🙂 It's a facinating culture!

and Rayne i didnt think that Women were allowed to do stuff like riding horses and carrying swords back then??
 
That's why i said "wife" of a Samurai. If women were allowed to do things like that then I would definately be a Samurai! I settled for wife cos that would be really cool too. Then I could dream about my gorgeous husband fighting for his honor. Mmmmmmm........

Rayne would be a woman disguised as a man! Believe me, she would find a way! Go horserider, go! 😉

I think it be so cool to be a part of so much in history, however, I think ultimately I would like to go back into Jesus time. Actually, I want to be Virgin Mary and raise Jesus! 🙂
 
Hmmm...Medievel sounds cool, but I hear it was gross back then. Maybe during the enlightenment in france or during the 60's or 70's in america.

Women in feudal Japan could be samurai as well. They were required to learn the way of the samurai, and some were instructed in the arts of war- sword, bow and horsemanship (horsewomanship??) and were expected to fight as required. In addition to the duties of a samurai to her liege-lord (the warlord her husband served), she was also honour bound to manage her husband's household...pay all bills, collect all taxes on his peasants, and find a way to meet all obligations of the household at the cost of her head!! If she failed to balance the books, she would often be "invited" to commit ritual suicide (seppuku) to atone for the loss of face her bad management caused. It was never the man's fault!!! This was good for the guys, but not so for the women...so I see your point with the training and all, but the extra duties could be a killer...literally.

If you are interested in a very good book on the subject, I suggest James Clavell's "Shogun"...he incorporates the way of the samurai seamlessly into his story...and he's done his homework, because my other research on the subject found little discrepancy with his version of the Japanese honour code.
 
Wow, Thanks killerdwarf! I am quite interested! I'm very interested in the culture back then and especially the duties of the samurai and their wives! Thanks for all the info you gave me. I'm even more interested now! 🙂
 
Hey, no big! One word of caution about Clavell and Shogun...the author throws a lot of characters at you in the first couple of chapters, and a few of them have similar sounding names...don't get freaked...the characters are very vibrant, and they will become distinct as you read further on. Also, Clavell never introduces a character without telling their whole story at some point in the book. It took me a couple of times thru Shogun to get that, and it's not needed to enjoy the story, but it is something to keep in mind while you wade thru the Shinakas and Shonaras that populate the book!
 
Thanks a lot. When I can get a hold of the book I'll definately give it a read! I'll bear what you said in mind. It's ok though, I'm not easily scared away from reading a book. 🙂 No matter how complex it seems!
