/film is reporting that we as fans have not suffered enough:

Far Away Entertainment (via TheOneRing.net) revealed plans for The Hobbit trilogy extended edition coming to theaters, which will be happening on a few different nights, beginning on October 5th, one month before the The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition is slated to hit home video on November 3rd. Here’s the event information:

Fathom Events and Warner Bros. are partnering to present the extended editions of all three Hobbit movies. Shown over three nights, the epic Peter Jackson trilogy will be the first time the extended editions have ever been released in theatres. Also included will be an exclusive introduction by director Peter Jackson. First night showing starts Monday, October 5th, 2015 at 7:30pm local. Tickets will be regular admission prices for each movie.

For those curious, here’s the extended edition running times for each movie:
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – 182 minutes (theatrical: 169 minutes)
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – 186 minutes (theatrical: 161 minutes)
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – 174 minutes (theatrical: 144 minutes)​

The book takes about 2 and a half hours to read (leisurely).
Watching films is supposed to be shorter than reading the book versions- that's their one advantage- so you have more free time to do other stuff.
 
I have really not enjoyed the Hobbit movies. Not because of their length compared to the book, or because they're more "kiddy" as to be aimed more at kids, but because of the amount of CGI. I think they look utterly awful. LotR looked far better and the Fellowship of the Ring was made 11 years before An Unexpected Journey. The prosthetics used on the dwarves looked, in no nicer way, like something you'd see in a low budget porno.

Anyway. I have sat through all of the LotR films in a one-er, but that was at home, where you can move and pee freely, eat and water yourself, even have a shower inbetween films. I'd get sleeping-arse in the first hour if it were at the cinema.
 
I think that's my biggest issue; not the ton of extra stuff they added to it, but all of the CGI. Lord of the Rings had more believable CGI, but the Hobbit was more like Star Wars prequel CGI.
 
"Star Wars prequels" is a pretty good summary of how I feel about the Hobbit movies.

The way they milk this 300-page book, they might as well give each page its own film.

Peter Jackson apparently decided he was as good a writer as J.R.R. Tolkien. He was mistaken.

Oh, look... a bunny sleigh! And this Goblin Town battle should make a perfect theme park attraction!
 
I loved the first 2 Hobbit movies, hated the last one (a 3h CGI battle? no thank you). But I'm excited to see the extended edition, hopefully most of the removed scenes are not action scenes, but scenes developing the characters and the plot.
 
The second one was alright.. I just thought the first one was horrible.. not as horrible as the third, but..

What did you love about the first one? It had really two scenes that I remember.. that's it. The trolls and riddles in the dark.. that's the only things I can remember about the first one. Well.. the cartoonish dish washing song scene at the beginning but I try to forget that.

I loved that song! But overall the first movie at least had some stuff taken from the book. A lot of the scenes were well made, and it actually felt like a semi-coherent storyline, not like the mess of the third movie.

I saw the first one three times!! only because the first two times I fell asleep. It just seemed like a LONG set-up. And I did NOT like the beginning with the 'flashforward' that actually took me out of the movie from the jump.

What were some of the well made scenes? apart from the ones I mentioned I cant remember anything else.

That the Hobbit Trilogy relaunch which no one, except for @Blaze and @Buffy Summers are looking forward to is actually going to be R-rated for the third installment.

The Classification and Rating Administration (CARA), a division of the MPAA, revealed that the Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition will be bumped up from the original film’s PG-13 to an R. The only description given for the rating change is “some violence,” while the original Five Armies received its rating for “extended sequences of intense fantasy action violence, and frightening images.”

I never said I will watch it again! I will just get on the internet and say how horrible it is, how it's far too long, it had gratuitous violence and the extra length added nothing to the movie- without actually seeing it.

Will I watch it? depends on the local. In the movies? heck naw. In a drive-in.. possibly. At home.. maybe. If you invite me for beer and nachos I'd even with it with you Blazie.

I don't like beer.. and I don't like Canada either.. I was just trying to make you feel good. Ya know.. that you were able to entertain the Pole.

(I dont have a problem with canada, in fact I have been to most provinces. Have not been to Nunavut, New Foundland or Nova Scotia)

but I am disappointed, as I thought they were going to be back-to-back nights.. but instead its An Unexpected Journey on Oct. 5; The Desolation of Smaug on Oct. 7, and The Battle of the Five Armies on Oct. 13... that seems odd to me.
