Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy are all returning for the sequel movie which will hit Disney+ streaming service next year.

From variety:

In the original “Hocus Pocus,” Midler, Parker and Najimy played a trio of witch sisters who have been cursed since 1963. The fearsome threesome is inadvertently resurrected 300 years later by a boy whose family has moved from Los Angeles to Salem. As they attempt to acclimate to the 20th century, they are horrified to discover that Halloween has become a holiday.

Disney isn’t exactly reinventing the wheel for the follow-up. The sequel centers on three young women who accidentally bring the Sanderson sisters back to modern day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world.

“Now more than ever, people need to laugh,” Fletcher said. “We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film. I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special.

Are you excited for a sequel? Have you seen the original?

Phew. I'm just relieved that the original three are returning, that was really my only worry. I'm sure it'll be good now, though I doubt it'll live up to the iconic classic that the original has become over the past many years.

I think this is going to fall into the "they should've left it alone" category. So between 1693 and 1993, the witches didn't age but now between 1993 and 2022 they would've aged almost 30 years.

Middler is mid 70s, Najimy is mid 60s and Parker is mid 50s.

Somehow I don't think they'll be recreating this scene with all the appeal it had back then:

There you go, bringing a perceived new glory from the old witches to give magic a good name. Mind you if it isn't made as well as the 1993 tale was created the Sanderson name of three witches will be returned to the infamy they won in 1693.

This one I'm fine with. The long gap between the two means this can have a special one off getting the gang back together type feel. As long as they update the themes a little I can see this working fine.
