Holiday Season

I've realized last year that there isn't that many great Christmas movies. It's more about movies that happen to take place during Christmas. ๐Ÿ˜‚

But yea, this is the best time of the year! I used to have the tradition of watching the LoTR trilogy every Christmas break. I might do this again this year.

My last day off before Christmas today, so presents need delivering! Cards need writing, and lots of cleaning to do.
Going to be a busy day, debating on buying my boxing day veg today as well.

Just to keep me on my toes , two enormous trees fell today . One was no problem but the other did a lot of damage ,crushed my old van pretty good and hit my place with a glancing blow . Nobody hurt though . I had some warning but even so it was nip and tuck .Not sure of the extent of the damage , I guess I'm leaking badly but won't know til the rain comes . Could have been a lot worse.

Had to climb out the window to clear my door with the chainsaw ๐Ÿ˜€ Managed to replace a busted skylight today before dark , clear a lot of wood and check my power was safe . Worst Christmas Miracle ever !! ๐Ÿ˜€

So I've got plenty of chores on . The temptation to just cover the crushed van with tinsel and fairy lights is pretty strong . ๐Ÿ˜› Asda in the morning . Christmas is in the bag anyway ....if I've got time to stop ๐Ÿ˜€ Not a lot of daylight so I'll be sitting on my hands for 16 hours a day whatever happens . I reckon a slightly eccentric festive timetable might be the way . Breakfast at 4pm ...dinner at midnight ?

Still not really feeling it. I've got the turkey with stuffing in it and some vegetables ready.

Still need to do some present shopping.

I'm all sorted for Christmas now, except the cleaning. That's still a work in progress! I've bought Aldi's frozen cauliflower cheese to try, with my salmon wellington. Still need veg, but I can get after work Thursday or Friday, but if not its no big deal, just wanted some new potatoes mainly as plenty of veg in freezer.

No tubs of chocolate bought, but I do have pringles and mince pies. I'm debating on getting a cheesecake or something for dessert but I'm not a huge dessert person.

I often get a takeaway delivered to work Christmas eve as its normally a busy day for me, thinking I might order pizza and any leftovers (unlikely) for dinner.

Got given a turkey ,thrown my delicately balanced Christmas into utter disarray ๐Ÿ˜ฑ ๐Ÿ˜€ . I think I'm splitting it down and poaching it on the woodburner thursday night ? Not totally sure yet . Not in the mood to roast ,can't refreeze...but I have got space in the fridge for some meat stuffed tupperware .It should still be good on Christmas day ๐Ÿ™‚.

There are but two christmas movies the Spanky will ever watch and he has them on queue for Saturday. They are Go and The Night Before. Great Christmas movies that are oft overlooked with some great messages.

Christmas has already started at Munga Manor ๐Ÿ˜› . Had scrambled eggs and ham for lunch .Rolled the dice on a big cheap box of ham trim and got a nice quality breaded ham . Should get a lot of meals out of it . Half the price of the proper meat joint . Bit of a gamble but it's paid off . Got eggs to use up so I'm thinking ham ,eggs, tomatoes and toast for dinner . Might do a dessert but it feels too soon ๐Ÿ˜€ Munching away on lebkuchen stars ,they'll do for afters ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah , that was a triumph . Did the eggs in the microwave and the rest on the woodburner .Burnt my first two slices . Woodburner toast is hard ! ๐Ÿ˜› Feeling pretty Christmasy right now . Got a copper kettle bubbling away ...some sort of whiskey tea in my near future . ๐Ÿ™‚ My Amazon Prime free trial runs out Friday ,Disney goes off on the 30th. Shame ,there's a show (Cold Case ) I'm really into on Prime ,but I'm not shelling out 9 quid just for a detective show .

Love hearing about all the holiday plans you folks have! Three days to Christmas now ๐Ÿคฉ

We're pretty much ready here, safe for some house cleaning that's happening today. The meteorologists are calling for a "historical weather event" starting tomorrow, so we ended up buying our groceries for Christmas dinner early. We have a couple last minute things to pick up on Friday, if we can leave the house lol. But luckily nothing major left to pick up during Smowmaggeddon โ„๏ธ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ

Usually we do our Christmas dinner on the day of, but this year we're actually both off on Christmas Eve. So we're doing the big meal that day, and making the 25th more of a relaxing day around the house. I'm looking forward to it, but also a little concerned about the very real possibility our power will go out haha. Wish us luck!

Behold !! Perhaps the worst Christmas movie ever made . I give you "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" .(1964) . Good anti-christmas pick .

One day of work left to go! Hopefully it'll be a busy one and go quickly. Then I'll pop down to see what's going free at the zero waste stall and relax!

Pre-cooked some veg on the woodburner . Glad I got it out the way because my old dog makes woodstove cooking real difficult . One pan at a time is about my limit with Her Highness getting in the way every 5 minutes.

Pulled some meats out the freezer for tomorrow . Either cooked breakfast to get going ...or early dinner . Depends how I feel in the morning . I will be considerably more chilled after dinner, so getting it done feels good right now ๐Ÿ˜‰ . Turkey, sausage, cauliflower cheese, baby carrots, mash and cabbage . Might throw on some ham or bacon and sauerkraut , maybe mushy peas or green beans . I'll see how it plates up tomorrow .

Much the same for Boxing day , spinach instead of cabbage but similar vibe .

Had a simple ham, mash and cabbage dinner ,with warm apple pie and evaporated milk for dessert ๐Ÿ˜› . Delicious ! And also thrifty ๐Ÿ˜‰ . Did pretty well with the budgeting .I cancelled an order , economized on 'mains' , didn't spend a penny on drinks . Was gifted a slab of lager and there's enough booze laying around the place to kill a grown man ๐Ÿ˜€. Got an order booked for the 29th ,if I'm pining for anything fancy , I'll buy it then ๐Ÿ™‚ .

Happy Holidays !

Forgot the carrots , added grilled courgette . The meat was great , the veg was great ,my cheese sauce was a disaster ๐Ÿ˜ฑ . 8.5/10 . Pretty stuffed now . Feel like a little sleepie ...but the fire needs lighting and the dog likely won't let me snooze .

I survived my dad's woe is me, and still have family games at my aunts to go.

I had my 40 winkers and woke up confused ๐Ÿ˜€ . Watching season 2 of Buffy . Disney+ goes off at mine in a few days . Trying to extract as much value as I can ...before switching to DVD to finish the watchthrough . Had a good month on Disney+... but I would be furious if I paid year round . Made a bit of a boo-boo .I was watching "Prophecy Girl" while cooking and it's just too good an episode for casual viewing . Nearly ruined the meats ! ๐Ÿ˜›

Pre-cooking veg is my killer holiday hack this year . I was all set for boxing day lunch and didn't even wake the dog up ๐Ÿ˜› . Think I might do another batch of mash , cauliflower and cabbage tonight to see me through the rest of the holiday .

Today was turkey ,ham , mash , cabbage and fried courgette . Solid 9/10 . Later I'm having a lil cooked breakfast for dinner ๐Ÿ™‚ Pretty pleased ,after Boxing day I start to feel like the main business is done . Anything extra now is a bonus . A few nice meals ,a bit of binge watching , I'm happy.

I hope everyone had a great xmas !!

Back in work today, but it almost feels like a break after having family staying over for the last 3 days ! But after today not back at work until next Tuesday ๐Ÿ™‚

Hopefully nobody in North America had their xmas too badly affected by the storms

They are Go and The Night Before. Great Christmas movies that are oft overlooked with some great messages.

I love Go. Its such a great rewatchable film. It deserves way more attention

Could not bear to be parted from Disney+ today . I'm enjoying streaming Btvs too much right now ... and Angel is there waiting too . Another month booked.

I ate all the expiring fresh food ๐Ÿ˜› . Still plenty of Christmas left but nothing urgent . Have no idea what I'm eating tonight. I might skip it . I have smashed a good weight of vegetables this week ๐Ÿ˜€. I could stand to miss a meal .

I'm calling Christmas as a resounding success at mine . I was relaxed , warm , frugal yet utterly content .

Back to reality next week . I have promised myself I will cook more fresh vegetables in 2023 . If I precook big batches on the woodstove ,it basically costs me nothing but improves my quality of life quite a bit .
