I came across an old thread in the cemetry that has long passed on but it posed the question of where you consider your home?
It got me thinking so I thought it would be an interesting topic to revive.
I have always believed that my home was Limerick, Ireland. I was born and raised here. Everything that is familiar to me is here. My family of course is here too, but also the streets and the people. I love how fresh and pure the city feels on a frosty morning with everything from the rooftops down to the blades of grass are glossed in shinning white. I love the humour of the people, they way the speak ,all those lovely 'Limerickisms' that make this place feel like home. Or how a cup of tea is both a social gathering and a solution to any problem. I love the rain! lol I love how the city is literally painted red once the rugby season comes into full effect. I love to walk along the Shannon Banks in the summertime.
What I have found this year is that no matter where I go I take this with me. I was Sydney for a month and I could absolutely see a life for myself there. We had Christmas in July and dinner parties while endless cups of tea were drunk 34 floors in the air watching as the city buzzed. That felt like home too.
I lived in MA for the last four months of the year and I think that felt the most 'right'. Not because it was Massachusetts (although it is stunning) but because I created a family for myself with my friends. Since I've come back to Ireland I have missed that, missed them.
So right now, for me, home is where my friends are, the little family we made when we were a million miles away from our own.
Corny as hell but true...so where is your home?
