People always say that home is where the heart is. So where is your "true" home?

For instance, I currently live in a tiny town in the mountains of Virginia, and my parents live 3 hours down the road in Richmond. But my HOME is definitely in New Orleans LA. Ok, more specifically, my *heart* is living on the Tulane campus, but I'm in love with New Orleans. I visit every time I get a chance and it's always different. I miss it so much sometimes!

I miss the heat that slicks your skin with sweat, no matter how still you sit...and you can never sit still for very long. I miss food that's actually spicy enough for me to love it (there is not enough hot sauce in the state of Virginia to make my caf's food palatable) I miss the clattering street cars (I love riding the St. Charles line, just to look at the houses). I miss the mix of old and new, I miss the jazz, I miss the French Quarter like crazy, I miss cafe au lait and beignets on Sunday mornings, I miss the drunken amble back over cracked sidewalks from TJ Q's, I miss the iron, I miss rushing through crowds on Bourbon Street at 3 am, Jim's hand clutching mine because I won't slow down long enough for him to really catch up and he doesn't want to lose me, and boy oh boy do I miss the heat. I even miss the rain.

Wow, that one was long....

You sure are singing my song now! Don't forget the Spanish moss and the beads in the trees along St.Charles!

you should be a writer...if you already aren't...
That was beautiful Anchovy. 😉

My real home is here in Chicago and this is where it will always be. No big story behind it.😀

Well its certainly not the hick town i'm currently in. I felt at home when I was in New York but that was only for two weeks. I'd love to be there but Edinburgh means a lot to me. It has everything I need in a city and its just amazing.

Well, I don't want to count my real home, because that's just boring... And really, there's nothing bad about it, but it just isn't my "real" home...

The place I call home, is Halifax, Nova Scotia... My family is originally from NFLD (pfft, accent), but I myself never lived there... I spent most of my last 5 years in HLFX with the Navy, and it is the most incredible place I've ever been... I love waking up in the morning, and smelling the ocean (being in the ocean, different story... ICK). The people there are the most down to earth (besides NFLD) and very accomodating... It's incredibly beautiful, and very rooted to its ancestry...

I plan on moving there, when I finish school... It's really the place I'd love to raise children, more than anywhere else... And, there's a lower cost of living there, than where I live now...

Aww, I miss my home 🙁 (Not the snow though... Seven feet? What the hell is that??)

For the longest time I thought of Gothenburg as my home. I was born there, only lived there for a year but I visit like.. at least once a year. It's a beautiful city.. A lot warmer than Umeå, and bigger, but it still feels like a small town, for some reason.. Although it's got everything a big city has got. Yea I kind of love it.. but really.. I have lived in Umeå all my life, almost, and I love this city, I really do.. But since I have been moving around a lot, different houses and apartments and stuff, I don't have a place that is home..
If I was gonna say a place though, it'd be "Höga Kusten".. It's beautiful and I've been there almost every summer since I was a kid.. It's the feeling of it.. hmm.. I don't know...

hey hun! EPO ;) jeg synes Götteborg er en fantastisk by!! jepp, jepp.. sorry, it's a great city GB!
Along with Epo I have to say that "Höga kusten" is my home. It's where I was born. I moved away from there last year and I miss it very much. Seeing the mountains and woods there when I come home to visit makes me feel so good!

I agree with Höga kusten! Haven't been there much but it's really beautiful.
I have two homes, first Luleå (norrland 4-life!) where I've lived most of my life, all my friends live/lived here and i have a bunch of memories. Then we have San Vicente where I was born, where most of my family lives and where I have my roots, my history. It's hard to feel like any of those is more of a home than the other.

Then we have this thing with Los Angeles. I've never been there but I know that when I go there, I'll never want to go back to wherever I came from.

Well i haven't posted on here for a while, but i liked the sounds of this one, so i decided to come up with a place that i feel at home.

Right now i live in Central NY (Utica) a pretty medium sized city... it's really snowy and pretty crappy weather. I'm about 45 mins east of Syracuse and it's cold for most of the year. I've lived here for pretty much all of my life, moving around the area from time to time just following my mom around. I really don't feel like I'm at home where i am now tho. I live w/ my mom and her bf and it just isn't right. oh well, Niagara Falls in August for college.

I was born in Titusville PA.. it's a nice small quiet town where everyone is just perfect. It's like a blast from the past, a town still stuck in older times, but with present fasion. I've always felt like i've belonged there whenever i went back... my home away from 'home'. i know i would never move back there tho because it's too small for me, but i still like to consider it my first and only one true home. maybe one day i'll go back and stay, it all depends on what i'm doing with my life.

Hrm, yeah, that sums it up on my 'home'.

Wow! That's just across the lake! I grew up watching your TV stations from Erie, PA! Always wanted to visit Erie and area...Titusville, Conneaut (?) etc.

Uh, you are sooo right Kd!! I miss running in Audubon as well...and there's a "bead tree" outside Jim's dorm where the students throw their beads off the balcony. Love that...and Desire, and all the tacky, touristy souvenir shops on Bourbon and the street magicians, and the kids who tap-dance with crushed cans attached to the soles of their shoues and the cigar shops...oooh, the cigar shops! I love that smell...

I could go on...

Please...go on, by all means!
I really had to think about this. I've lived in so many places over my short life that I found it hard to choose a place that is really my home. There are so many places I've called "home" in my past. But after long consideration I've realised that I'm there. For the first time in my life I'm at "home". Aberdeen is full of life but if you want a nice quiet place to go you can take a walk along the promenade at the beach. The sea air blows in the wind and catches your breath. It makes you feel alive. And if you look towards the city you have the most wonderful view... especially at night time. That's all the beauty of the place but the main thing that makes Aberdeen my home is that it's the first place that I've truely felt safe.

Sounds like somewhere I'd like to visit. Love the sea...
Welcome to Roanoke!!! I guess you are going to Hollins College? You are only a hop, skip and jump from my home. Roanoke isnt as big as New Orleans but I do hope that you enjoy being here. (If I may be so bold, what are you studying?) Welcome again to Roanoke... PM me if you would like to.

I get that, Faldor! Done the wandering thing, and I'm glad it's done...I'm too old for that stuff!;)
Gotta agree with the rest of the Höga Kusten fans. I've only been there once, when my brother got married, but it was so beautiful. Kinda fairytale looking landscape.

But my home is where my family is so Uppsala and Stockholm. My real home is Uppsala, but the place a feel the most at home is at my Grandma and grandpas home in Stockholm. But then again I don't really feel like home anywhere. Bit restless, wanna keep movin.

My heart stayed in a house I lived in from 5 to 9 years old. That's the only house I ever lived in, & I just loved it so much, I used to climb up the tree in our garden... anyway, I know it was probably not that great objectively, but of course I idealized the place... that was my home place... never felt at home anywhere ever since, nor secured... & I got used to move a lot too, so now, I like to move, I don't like being bound to one place, I like changes, even though sometimes I like to settle down.

:wtf: is she telling... 🙂

no1. good thread!!!

well my house home is in oslo, norway(MY very NONE town is my home town, i hate it.. HATE IT I TELL YOU! everytime i go back i'm so Bummed out, the people the places, the way they act and talk ... arrrg.. blæææ- LOL just had to get that out.)

But if i could choose a place to truly make a pysical home in i would choose Paris, fRance. I love paris. i have never been to a place so beautiful! the buildings, the cafes, the stores, the river.. THE EIFEL tower.... La defance, montmartre.... sacre cour-i have a special bond with that church, the most beautiful church... aaaa *sighs with dreamy look in her eyes.* My heart lies there, evvery bad weathered day.. or boring day, or day i really want to go shopping and spend money on usless things, my heart and mind drift to paris... Of september days, walking in Quartier latin... walking from Notre dame, to the quartier Latin, and towards the Luxembourg garden....

there are other cities as well and places that i will say come on my top 5 list of places that are wonderful.... i really like virgina/washington dc area... Bristow, mannassas, arlington VA.... mmmm and Key west. for a norwegian like my self, to ride(one a plane that is) from a pretty cold DC and land in South florida in the midle of january, is so amazing... so magickal, and Key west is an exelent place to walk around in that magical daze, and really feel like time has let you fly pased those cold winter months and landed your butt in the summer months... where you can where tops and camisoles, and skirts... you can bathe in the ocean. and it's mid-jan....

My non-psyickal home of the heart is with my boyf, who is sitting next to me, there is just something about that man...

LMAO, you forgot to point out the traffic jam, the poluted air, the robbers & the dull gray buildings of Paris, the so expensive cost of a simple room to live there, hahaha ;@)
I kind of feel homeless... I have lived in a few different places, too many probably. When I visit the place where I grew up, it sure doesn't feel like home anymore.

i stick my head out of my door...and I look at Diamond Head...today it was nice...i got burned...for staying out in the yard for 15 minutes...but it was good...it's good to get burned once in a while...
