Hey there! I've been lurking on the boards since around August, which is the time I finally finished watching all seven seasons of Buffy for the first time. Buffy-watching simultaneously consumed and enhanced my entire summer, to say the least. I quickly moved on to Angel, which only deepened my new-found obsession. My friends and family make fun of me (What? You're into that goofy Buffy the Vampire Slayer stuff now?), so I have no one to talk to about these fictional characters who have wormed their way into my heart and this world that has somehow managed to alter my outlook on life.

So needless to say, I'm excited I finally summoned the courage to join and post! I've been avoiding it because although I have been involved in other forums, I'm worried that I'm too old to be doing this kind of thing anymore. But you're never too old to be a geek, right? I don't know how active I will be, as I am a full-time graduate student, desperately searching for a job, and taking care of my twelve-year-old dog who behaves like a puppy and demands a lot of my attention. But I'll do my best. I really need an outlet for my Buffy obsession; last semester, all I could do was hide in a corner of the library and read scholarly Buffy books and hope that no one looked to see what I was reading.

Oh, and I'm a HUGE Spike fan, and I do love the Spuffy. I know much of the fandom looks down on this. I'm not sure how much crap I'll get for that, but there it is. Spike is probably the main reason my affection for the show turned into an obsession. He's probably the most multi-faceted and well-developed character I've encountered in anything in the history of ever.

The slight embarrasment about being a massive buffy geek? that i can empathise with.
What? Now I'm so sad that they make fun of you. And you'll never be too old to like BtVS. And it's nothing wrong to like BtVS. That's why I like it here so much. No-one talks to me about BtVS in real life too. And most of Buffy fans happen to be nice, seriously. 😉

Welcome to the boards. I'm sure you're in the right place to discuss everything about the show. 🙂

edit : To response to PrincessBuffy's post, Fuffy camp welcome you anytime. (sw)

Hey there!!! Heheheh another Spuffy! More for us!!! Oh gosh you are not too old, we've got members from 14 years to 60 years. (not that that is in any way old WA!! 😛) This is definitley the place for you, it is VERY addictive! My friends are the same way with me about it, so I know where you're coming from 🙂 I'm looking forward to your posts! 😀

That's 62 and a grandfather, you little scamp!
That's not to say I have anything against Angel/Buffy! No, truthfully, I liked Bangel in seasons 1-3. You will hear no Bangel bashing from me. In fact, I'm pretty open to most pairings (at least ones that make sense, or are backed up by some kind of evidence).

How do you feel about Dander?

If it makes you feel any better about your age, you might notice that I'm 62, which makes me almost three times your age, and I'm still not too old for this.

And as far as Spuffy being looked down on by much of the fandom, if you look around here, you might notice quite a few of us, and I promise you, NOBODY looks down on us. Fear us, maybe, because we're the baddest of the bad, envy us, certainly, because we're backing what is obviously the winning ship, but look down on us? Never. Spuffies are the Pit Bulldogs of the Buffy Boards. Bangels are just the little Poodles.

Welcome, welcome! 😀 Another Spuffy fan, eh? 🙂 Good choice.

Don't worry, here at the Boards, age has no meaning. 😀 Most of our best posters are aged 20+.

yep I'm 27 also. HrsMrs is one of my fave posters, as is White Avenger (even if hes a Spuffy flunky).

Welcome to the boards!

Awesome! Welcome to the best Whedonverse forum around!

I didn't know there was a age limit on who could post in forums! 😉 If you think you're too old, then I must be ancient, lol. (I'm 24)

No way you're too old. Most of us are older then you, actually. You like what you like. No age limit here, my friend.

I don't know how active I will be, as I am a full-time graduate student, desperately searching for a job, and taking care of my twelve-year-old dog who behaves like a puppy and demands a lot of my attention. But I'll do my best. HA! I love those Buffy books. Have you read Reading Angel? It's great. There is an excellent essay in it comparing Angel to Batman. Have you checked out Slayege, the online journal for Buffy Studies?

This place is great as an outlet! We are insanely active, and have great, intelligent discussions.

Oh, and I'm a HUGE Spike fan, and I do love the Spuffy.
Me too. Thank God! We can always use more Spuffies around here...that's for sure. The Bangels are taking over the place!! 😉

I know much of the fandom looks down on this. I'm not sure how much crap I'll get for that, but there it is. Spike is probably the main reason my affection for the show turned into an obsession. I wouldn't say most of the fandom looks down on the fact that Spike is your favorite character, or that you're a Spike fangirl. He is one of the most popular characters yet also one of the most controversial. Spike is also one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, too. Let's chat about Spike sometime.

Can we be friends? Seriously?

I'm so glad you found us, Crystal. I look forward to reading your posts!

P.S. What are you studying in grad school?

Welcome to the Boards! Enjoy and post often 🙂

You're never too old for Buffy!! (notice I keep my age hidden because I don't want people to know how old I am - hit, it's quite a bit older than you!)

I remember when I first got involved witht he fandom I was surprised by the still existing Bangel-love. I just assumed everyone would be Spuffy.

Wow, pretty sig. :)
Hi Crystal! :welcome: If your friends and family think of the show as goofy it just shows that they haven't given it a good enough chance. You won't have that problem here. Real life always come first but looking forward to seeing you around when you have the time.
