I really liked the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street that was released earlier this year. I didn't think it was that scary, and the only real difference was the generation change, but it wasn't bad. I think it was a pretty decent and didn't tarnish the original's name. Now a true "horror" was last year's Friday the 13th take. 😛
I actually did not mind this years nightmare on elm street the only difference was Freddy that was hard to get used to but otherwise it did great. Their opening scene had me like wow it just looked so real.
Now I completely agree about Friday the 13th I actually dislike the originals but this new one gave me hope and made me like Jason 🙂
The only remake that has really disappointed me recently were the Halloween ones.

The recent remake of "The Wolf Man" was a pretty good movie, but the original, with Lon Chaney Jr was a masterpiece and, along with Karloff's "Frankenstein," provided the innovation of reversing the roles of monster and victim, portraying the monster the monster as a victim of circumstance.
Gary Oldman's "Dracula," went the other way and made the title character more sympathetic, but they were overabundant with the fake blood and special effects. Lugosi could sum up his entire character and send a shiver up the spines of the entire audience with the simple statement, "I never drink...wine."
Tom Cruise turned "The War Of The Worlds" into little more than a glorified disaster movie.
Reeves in "The Day The Earth Stood Still" was pitiful.
Brad Pitt in "Meet Joe Black" only slightly resembled it's predecessor, "Death Takes A Holiday."
As much as I love the advancements in special effects, that make movies like "Avatar," "Jurassic Park," the "lord Of The Rings" trilogy, and the upcoming "John Carter Of Mars" (please, please, PLEASE, don't let them screw up that one the way they did "At Tha Earth's Core!!") there is a tendency at times to put more emphasis on them than the characters themselves.
As for remakes of the unkillable slasher movies like "Nightmare On Elm Street" and "Halloween," I was never been a fan of the genre in the first place, so I can't really comment on them.

The only good remake Ive seen lately in the horror world was Halloween (the first one) I know it was a while ago but Im a horror buff so tend to steer clear of remakes!
Nightmare on Elm Street was a travesty!! I hated every minute of it probably because I am a massive fan of the oldies. Its a franchise that should never have been touched. To me that wasnt Freddy.

See I am the complete opposite IMO nightmare on elm street was done okay. To me Rob Zombie ruined the name of original Halloweens with his interpretation. I say this because the first one was okay nothing brilliant but the second one made all of the ground the first one covered seem useless to me.

I agree about the second Halloween that was absoloute trash it had nothing to do with anything about the movies IMO. But I cant agree about Nightmare On Elm Street they used some stuff from the original which they shouldnt have done because the rest of it was nothing like the original. And all that crap about Freddy molesting Nancy is bull because in the originals Nancy and co were never even born when Freddy was killed, it was way to focussed on the whole Freddy being a child molester thing cause even wes craven has said that was his original intention but he changed it so that Freddy was just a child murderer so they completly changed the story. And Robert Englund is Freddy no one else comes close! Rant Over lol :tongue3:
I don't know what was going on in Halloween two glad to see I wasn't the only one. I mean first off they made Loomis look like an A-hole which isn't the case in the movies. Also they had Michael looking like a caveman and didn't wear his mask. He also seemed very violent like he was beating the victims which I know sounds weird to say considering he is the killer but in the originals he walked slow he killed the victims it didn't seem like he was beating them that way. On top of all that they didn't use the theme so how they call it Halloween I don't know lol. That was my rant on that.
Now I agree about the Freddy thing they made it to much about his past. The thing is in the originals you know but you kind of don't in and I think we could have all come to our own conclusions without dwelling on it. Robert Englund is and always will be Freddy. That is one of the things that was hard to get used to during the viewing this Freddy will never live up to Robert. One thing i was really excited about going into the movie and was disappointed was the scene where the girl flew all around the wall. I thought it could be better than the original because of technology and all the improvements but it still lacked.
See, that's what bothered me about the Nightmare remake, too. When he's alive, he's a child molester, now he kills them. I thought the remake would have been much better if he had killed some of the children when he was alive. (Wow, this so should not be taken out of context, lol) Because now it would make sense that now, he kills people. Seriously, why either/or? He can't be both?
That and new Freddy's make-up. Just... I get what they were going for but the really scary thing about Englund-Freddy was that you can clearly see him enjoying what he does, because you can see his facial expressions.
Also, WHOEVER THAT GIRL WAS, THAT WAS NOT NANCY. Just no. Um, yeah, another original Nightmare fan here.
Otherwise, it wasn't nearly bad as I expected it to be. I really liked the wall special effect. And the videography (or whatever the word is) was FANTASTIC.

I just found out that there was a remake of Psycho in 1998 with Vince Vanghn and Anne Heche, but I saw it and it sucked. I really like the original Psycho that came out when my dad was a kid, which was long ago, and Norman Bates was so creepy! But you can't have Psycho without Anthony Perkins!
Oh and they made a remake of The Exorcist, which is one of my favorite films and I actually laughed through it too, I'm very weird 🙂. But I refuse to see the remake.

I enjoyed the original Wolf Man but hadn't heard many reviews on the remake. I'm glad you said that because I'd really like to see it. Plus, I love Emily Blunt.
I agree about The War of the Worlds, and how the focus of most of today's remakes is for the sake of showing off special effects.
Invasion with Naomi Watts, remake for Invasion of the Body Snatchers, was decent, in my opinion.

My favorite remakes would have to be The Texas Chainsaw Massacre & A Nightmare On Elm Street. I will say though that I did enjoy Friday the 13th & Halloween. I thought they were pretty good remakes as well. I understand that the older movies are classic but the only older horror movie I can sit through is Halloween. The rest are so cheesy & predictable, it's almost like they needed the new technology today to make the movie what it should've been.

I don't normally like remakes, especially if I've already seen the original. "The Amityville Horror" remake was one I was REALLY excited about and it shouldn't have even been called a remake, 'cause it was so different from the first. And Rob Zombie's "Halloween" remakes seemed more like soft-core porn at times than a horror movie, which really seriously annoyed me.
The only remakes I've seen that I loved more than the first was the Vince Vaughn version of "Psycho" that came out in the late 90's and the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". I thought those were really, really good. 🙂

Did you enjoy The Beginning too? I just love the characters & the cast, I wish they would make at least one more because the remake & The Beginning are great IMO.

Thats exactly it I know there needs to be swearing and nudity it is a horror movie people kind of expect it but he goes kind of far. I don't understand what Zombie was trying to do.
I agree with you and Wild At Heart on the Texas chainsaw massacres I loved the remakes. The original i saw a little but I will be honest I fell asleep I need to give it another go. The thing about the Texas chainsaw massacre remakes are they did it evenly with gore and story. Loved The Texas Chainsaw Massacre the beginning. I was actually kind of shocked by the ending.
Have any of you guys seen The Hills have eyes remakes?

I hate the hills have eyes! not because it was a bad movie but inbreeding and hillbillies is something that genuinly freaks me out lol
Lol I know! A few years ago i could watch it but now it totally freaks me out. Like i always tell my friend no woods like wrong turn or no places like hills have eyes just for safety. I think the part that is creepy is they must be a bit smart to keep getting away with this.

DoTd was about as good as remakes come (more of a re-imagining as it was more action focussed then the orignal). and the crazies was good as well tho it could have been called 'the zombies' and NOTHING would have changed lol
