Did Angel & the Fang Gang ever really care about Illyria, or were they just as she says in Angel & Faith 10.14 "managing" her? Was she just a threat to be minimized, or did she grow into a real team member?

I think Wesley cared for her. At first it was just because she was in Fred's body, but in the end, he became some sort of mentor to her, while she became, in a strange way, a support system for him.

As for the others, I never got the impression that she was truly part of the group. I think some liked her, like Spike, but from what I remember, for the most part "managing" sounds about right. Had the show progressed to a s6 though, I think maybe she would have had a bigger role within the group.

Sure, but not in the same way they cared for each other...their feelings came from the fact that it was Fred's body. Any emotional attachment came from positive feelings they had for Fred that they transferred to her. Over time she grew on them some and became part of their team, but if they were honest, that only really happened because she could be useful to them and because she was around.

Well, they certainly cared that she stayed in check. I definitely got a cautious vibe from Angel & co. more than anything else. It took almost half the season for her to really become part of the group, because at first all she wants to do is get back home. Once she realizes there is no home and she is trapped in that body, she becomes more... sociable. Still, I think the only one that really liked or cared about her was Wesley for obvious reasons. IMO, it had more to do with how Illyria acted than anything else. She was pretty standoffish and smug, and I think coupled with her power this made everyone a little scared of her. Toward the end of the show we see her come to terms with her situation and comes into her own more as a character, but since the show ended in the same season she was introduced, we really never got to see her progress more. I haven't read the comics, though.
