Hot Topic: Illyria pretending to be Fred

Hmm, the Fang Gang didn't really have a choice in that matter and Angel & Spike weren't even there. Wesley was about to tell them but Illyria intervened. I think it was the right thing to let her continue the charade considering the horrible circumstances of Fred's death and her parents' cluelessness about the supernatural.

They did have a right to know that their daughter was dead, though. A scene in the following episodes of Wesley informing them of her demise (stripped from all supernatural aspects) would have been nice.
 
That whole bit is heartbreaking. I adore Fred's parents, the loveliest parents in all the Buffyverse!
I can't say it was ethical, but I'd rather the charade than them just bumping into blue evil Fred. I think if they hadn't turned up out the blue, lol, then it'd be a different matter.
 
In the moment I can understand it. Its a very profound What If? But I think in the long term they should be told the truth.
 
Sure it was wrong, but it was the kind thing to do at the time. I can't imagine what it would have done to them to find out that Fred was gone by meeting Illyria. Would have been confusing and required so much more information; and it's possible that they wouldn't have believed it - just thought that Fred was now this evil blue being.

Who knows, maybe they're best off not knowing about the supernatural world.
 
I don't think it was wrong . They would have to tell her parents all about the supernatural taking away their innocence before saying
how Fred died . I don't think Fred would have wanted that . So I agree it was right .

But I also think that they should have been told later Fred had died so they would know as least .
 
About her dying I agree but nothing else I believe.
 
They could have told them something like Fred was on a plane that went down into the ocean . That way they know she dead & no body to mess things up.
 
I think that that episode was meant to give the first hint that, despite what Angel and the rest had been told, Fred was, in fact, not totally, permanently lost. I have heard from several sources that, had there been a Season 6, he planned to split Fred and Illyria into two separate and independent beings, whether as a Jekyll/Hyde, Ben/Glory split identity, or as two actual people. We've seen the former in Season 10, so that would tend to give credence to te statement.

As for Illyria actually imitating Fred, probably it was like her rescuing Gunn from the alternate dimension, just her way of demonstrating her power. (This was, I think, after she had been weakened, so she would have wanted to demonstrate that, though not up to let former level, she was still formidable)
 
So that why they did it ?

Also it sounds good . lllyria would do something like that .

Think that would have been a great thing to explore. That story is one where you can see there is more to come. They'd only really touched the surface with Illyria.

Something else about that episode, when Wes confronted Illyria about impersonating Fred, she said something like, "I can look lie whomever I please."

Taken literally, that could mean that Illyria was an actual shape shifter, something like the X Men's Mystique Nothing more was ever said on the subject, and we obviously haven't seen any evidence of such a power so far. Still, the possibility might be there.

That might be because she likes how she looks &doesn't want to change it also.
Personally I think it was wrong. They deserve to know that their daughter is dead. Illyria was already out of the room, and could have stayed hidden. However, she made the decision to pretend to be Fred and come out and meet them, and I think she thought it was the right thing to do. As she doesn't know much about being human, I think it's sweet that she would try, so it's not really her fault. And after she walked out, Wesley really had no choice but to go with it. He should inform them at a later time though.

Also, this means that Wesley never fulfilled Fred's dying wish...kind of messed up. She asked for one thing, dude!
