Instead of Spike, yes!
Don't think it would have worked with both of them, they fill a similar role.
Would have been interesting to see the dynamic between Faith & Fred/Illyria.
Although Faith being a permanent feature could be hard for Wesley.
Think she would be wary of the WR&H links though?

She would have suffered the same fate as Spike. When you take three-dimensional ancillary character and thrust them into the spotlight and expect the 8 or 9 episode good character to maintain it's freshness when stretched over 22 episodes. No, she would not have worked on team AI. She would have worked as recurring character though; as Spike should have been.
A 22 episode a season Faith character would be totally, and tonally! different than the supporting character on Buffy. Just as Gunn became a "different" character when he became part of the cast from when he started.

I see your point, but then I enjoyed the tension between the pair on Buffy so would have liked more of that. Also, since Faith changed a bit as a character then it could have worked. Of course Angel did establish its own characters so I wouldn't want too many Buffy characters getting in the way of that.
I wouldn't say that Spike moving over to Angel, or becoming a main on Buffy harmed his popularity though. A lot of people still like the character that he became, he's still really popular.
I never said it harmed his popularity, just his character. He went from a well-developed three-dimensional complex character to a one-note character. The same would have happened to Faith. The lead characters were all archetypical. Doesn't mean they were not popular... just they didn't really have any depth.I wouldn't say that Spike moving over to Angel, or becoming a main on Buffy harmed his popularity though. Nope, they weren't. And I never said they were. I never said the lead characters were "archetypical, one-note characters" only archetypical. I said when Spike went from being a complex supporting character to an archetype lead, he lost the depth he had, thus becoming one note. Same thing happened to Gunn. To get back on topic, the same thing would have happened to Faith and it would ruin the character.Buffy is a one-note character? Wesley is a one-note character?

Alot of people like McDonalds too, just I would prefer Ruth's Chris. There is nothing inherently wrong with McDonalds, though, it's just what best suits your palate.Well then surely that means that people like one note characters seeing as Spike is very popular?
