Hot Topic: Would it be unethical to use demon meat in the DoubleMeat Palace burgers?

It would definitely be unethical to eat a vampire, because you would have to keep them alive trough the ordeal to stop their bodies from dusting.

Okay, this is the grossest Hot Topic thread ever. My first reaction to the question was Ewww. It's too gross for me to come up with a clever answer...
It wouldn't be ethically wrong, but it might be culinarily wrong. They say human meat tastes like pork, but not sure there is a demon equivalent to the pig . . .

I thought human meat was supposed to taste like chicken, because everything tastes like chicken? 😕
Would anyone really want to eat demon meat? Just the thought of it might be enough to turn me vegetarian. Plus we know in the Buffyverse there are such a thing as 'good' demons too. Should we only eat bad demons? Would a good demon be the equivalent of organic meat (because good = treated better?)
Ethically though I guess there's no real argument not to use a bad demon as burger meat. I'm sure the demon would make burgers out of humans if they could....?! But then, two wrongs.... 😛

I did some googling, and most cannibals say it tastes like either veal or pork 😱 I think other things are meant to taste like chicken, like cat, dog, monkey, gerbil etc. 🙂
It's a pretty grim thought and is a step towards trying some pretty blearghsome toppings too! 🙁 On a basic level, if it wouldn't poison you and could nourish you, it's at least plausible, even if it is a gross thought. On an ethical level you would have to disclose what it is you are making your burgers with (as Doublemeat would have to divulge their veggie truth in real life) and I think most people would be put off 'demon burgers'. "Sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I wouldn't know..." 😀
I mean really, meat is meat, and it seems mostly an arbitrary determination by society of what is frowned upon to eat and what is 'correct', probably dictated mostly by things like the prevalence, ease to farm, per animal yield etc. I don't know. But the sentience of the creatures and their ability to object as much as to fight back plays a part I'd have thought too in what could be put under the ethical considerations. So there would probably be some degree of thought given as to whether the demons were threats to humans, so whether it was already the case that they were killed for survival rather than just being hunted for food. We raise/kill sentient creatures for food all the time, but whether a species of demon could be classed the same, as potential livestock, would be questionable for sure. If they were not a threat and they were also fully capable of communicating too (say Clem for example) then I think you are definitely into very bleak areas of ethics to start hunting/farming them as a food source. Particularly when there are plenty of other alternatives available.

Well, there was the gourmet club in "Angel" Season 5 who were going to eat Nina, and, apparently, met regularly for similar rare treats. Obviously, somebody eats various demon meats. The question is, would a fast food franchise be able to afford something that exotic? Considering the price of buffalo, moose, and elk meat in specialty restaurants, I can't see demonburgers as being particularly affordable, even if someone were inclined to want it.
If there is only a small percentage of demon they wouldnt have to disclose or have a huge supply. Cant be any worse for humans than current Fast food available could it?
Maybe demons come in different flavours and they could expand the marketing. Would you like finger fries with that? What about an eyeball smoothie? Upsize? Sure, add a layer of tongue to the burger. Spikes demon eggs would have made a meal too. No need for any part to go waste.

I think ethics would come into play mostly about the disclosure of the demon meat. If people knew it was demon meat and wanted to eat it then I don't see a huge problem...but the acting like its beef is gross.
You know, we saw plenty of "good" demons on the show so I guess the real question would be how do they go about getting demon meat? Would there be demon farms? Are even good demons killed for food.
