That was kind of unsure-ish for me too. But what I got from it, is similar to what Foreman said a while back to House, that Chase doesn't appreciate the job. I get the feeling sometimes from his character that to him his job is just a job, and although he obviously values it enough to want to keep it (as has been proven before), it is more as a source of income than saving peoples' lives. As if he doesn't paticularily like his job, or "want" to do it, but he does want the job itself for obvious financial reasons.
Hope that makes sense, just one take on it mind you, I'd be interested to hear what everyone else thinks 🙂
edit: Also, as a side point, I'm wondering if this is some kind of forshadowing to Chase leaving the hospital (or something happening to his character, at least), as one thing I find about this show is that things are rarely placed in the episodes, dialog or otherwise, without a reason.
