Okay this part I really do not understand; when I first joined Kinslayer mentioned Bad Eggs which I laughed at and Houses which I scoffed. I had no interest in either one. Then I made one post and Nerd4Poo said that if I was in a house I would have gotten House Karma.. being the karma whore (my first title) that I am I quickly joined up.

It's been awhile and I still do not understand the purpose; nothing happens there that cannot happen here, yet people take pride in their respective houses (although everyone knows droygyn rules! bulls represent!) and I was just wondering why?

For me the houses really serve as a testament to the genius of Buffy Summers (see, trying to make amends for all the ::bbat:: comments) because it does make this forum feel more like a home than just a place to post. So houses in general have a special place in my cyberheart. But that does not explain why they are important and such a big fuss to everyone else.

What difference does a house make? I dont see one.. or is it all just for 'show' Drogyn is the coolest house, so I have to act cool like the Fonze, where as Vahla Ha'nesh for the know-it-all smarty pants, Merrick is the dweebiods and Raiden the spaz. Or is there honestly a difference between houses?

Is it a case of what does my house do for me, or what do I do for my house? Or do you even stop to look at what houses the person is in when they post?

For me, it's all about the Dorm. The Drogyn Dorm made me the active member I am today. It's a place that let me make friends without having to make intelligent buffy related posts in the main boards. It's small, self contained, and friendly. People are welcoming in a way they simply can't be on the main boards, and because of this, it's a much more personal place. Once you find your feet there, the rest of the boards - and they are large - are much easier to handle.

Plus, the colours are pretty.

Oh. I looked at it backwards. I thought once you established yourself on the forum proper you could 'graduate' to the house to have the real convos. Thats why I thought you had to be sorted, because your worth was measured and you were placed in the house that best fit you. Your explanation seemed more valid.

Its all about the competitions for me.
I mean I like that occasionally we have these big Inter-House face offs and we all work together in the Dorms to to it.

I miss the Killertrivias - I did 2 and won 2...Can we not have something like that again!!!

Whats that? You know, with the advent of the chat you could sync up with a group of preselected house members and actually go head to head as opposed to just filling out the little questions like last time. Do a little BB Family Feud type thing in real time.

Thing with the dorms is it does bring you closer together with other dorm mates. You get to know them better, you can have a bit of *secret code* going on (where have Johnny and Smokey got to?) and therefore you can participate in the main forum with a bit more interactivity with your roomies. If you have squat all time, it's an easy stress free way of keeping in touch, without being too taxing time or brain wise. And sometimes you only want your nearest and dearest to see certain sides of you *cough elf cough*.

I like 'em.

I personally dont really get the houses.... i get jealous and wanna see other houses, to see what they're upto. as some of you might know from my past attempts to change house. but really, i dont understand what the point is, it separates everyone.

Since when does everything have to have a point or some greater meaning? The houses are fun, simple as that. The main board can be intimidating to newbies. The more conatined and more casual houses offer people a chance to ease their way and make friends. Merrick is like a mini-home for me on the boards. We enjoy ourselves, whether that be the Merrick Prom, or the Battle of the Shippers or you know, going on a mass murdering rampage...it's all for the fun! At the same time we all chat about our lives and vent and listen to the craziness that surrounds us. Sometimes you just need that.

I think the whole board has cliques though.. IRC cliques, art cliques, not in a bad way, people just relate to each other and start bantering. Even Drogyn has cliques.

Yes and no. It would be very easy for the houses to devolve into cliques but we work hard to make sure that doesn't happen. The fact that the main board is so active helps prevent it, I mean I spend most of my time here on the main boards, talking with everyone not just Merrick. Alot of my good friends on the board aren't in Merrick, then there's the IRC and BBTV. Countless opportunities for people to interact away from their Houses.

Ultimately the Houses could really only become cliques if we allowed it to happen, which we won't won't.

I, for one, like the houses. It's a little smaller and a little more intimate. At Raiden, we all support each other when the chips are down. 🙂 I'm not super into the contests (although they are fun) or the house wars or anything like that. For me, the houses are more like a little home within a home.

Like Keanoite, I spend most of my time on the main boards. I have fun at Raiden, though, and tend to be more of my own personal Palabra over there rather than the let's-debate-or-analyze-a-scene sorta of Palabra that I am on the main boards.
