This is out of interest, not for political debate. My own googling never gets me very far in terms of international situations 🙂

What is the housing situation like in your country right now?
If you've recently had a natural disaster, how is the rebuild working?
How do you home the homeless or is there any protection in place to avoid this?
Do you live in high rise or detatched building?
Do you feel a sense of community within your neighbourhood?


I am interested to see where Australia will go next to cope with the current housing crisis. We always tend to follow and never lead, so I wonder who we will follow for solutions.

What is the housing situation like in your country right now?

I have read that the US is short of almost 4 million units of housing (both rental and owned). This drives prices up, of course, and leaves a number of younger people living with their parents. Where I live is particularly high-priced, and we have about 40,000 homeless in our county (including those who have temporary govt housing).

If you've recently had a natural disaster, how is the rebuild working?

I couldn't say. You hear about the disaster, but the news loses interest before the housing is being rebuilt. I heard that Maui, which had a devastating wildfire that virtually destroyed a city of about 13,000, is expecting it to take 18 months to rebuild. There are govt funds devoted to rebuilding, but I don't know how much they cover.

How do you home the homeless or is there any protection in place to avoid this?

We have several group shelters, hotels that have been bought out by the govt for homeless housing, and also "tiny home" villages. But there are still a lot of people on the street, some who prefer that to having to live with govt rules, but many not by choice.

Do you live in high rise or detatched building?

Neither, I live in a four-story apartment building with 20 units.

Do you feel a sense of community within your neighbourhood?

Yes and no. I don't know most of my neighbors, wouldn't even recognize them if I saw them on the street. But I do feel a sense of connection with my area and local businesses.

I know this thread is not politically motivated because the answer requires some commonsense and politicians do not have access to commonsense. Back in the late 1970's when it was stated that the world needed fewer people and now (at last) the birthrate is slowly starting to drop.

Does that count as "medium density"? Do you have to pay strata fees and have strata meetings? I feel like that could be difficult! Haha.
I dont personally know anyone who lives in those types but they are starting to become more popular here. Very modern and nice looking. Some of the balconies are bigger than backyards in new builds!

I had to look up what those were! I think they are the same as what we call "condo/maintenance fees." But no, only owners pay that kind of thing, and I'm a renter. We don't have meetings, either, unless two people are doing laundry at the same time. 🙂
