Black Thorn
kidney for one
FULL STORY HERE

17-year-old boy, identified only by his surname, "Zheng", confessed to his mother that he had sold the kidney after spotting an online advertisement offering cash to anyone prepared to become an organ donor.

"When he came back, he had a laptop and a new Apple handset," his mother, identified as Miss Liu, told the station, showing off the livid red scar where her son's kidney was removed, "I wanted to know how he had got so much money and he finally confessed that he had sold one of his kidneys."

Trading organs online is a common practice in China, despite repeated attempts by China's government to stamp out the practice. Last year Japanese television reported that a group of "transplant tourists" had paid £50,000 to receive new kidneys in China.

Holy crap! LOL...my reacation was first shock, then lots of laughter, then pity. Wow, that's pretty intense..

Holy crap!! Wow... I don't know whether to laugh or feel sorry for him.

Dude.. He sold his kidney and got enough for an iPad2, an iPhone4 and a bleedin laptop (probably some cheap windows one) I deffo would be in awe. That's a helluva haul for just a kidney.

Yeah that's true... but it's sad that he had to go to that extreme to get those things. Seems like if he wanted them that bad his parents could try to help out. LOL

Cat may have only one kidney but you cant say he ain't got a set of balls on him.

Geez! I hope that procedure was safe...that kind of thing in China is pretty sketch.

I'm not sure if the 1st gen. iPad is even worth the retail price, let alone a kidney. :O

Beijing has 'several' Apple Stores? How many first world cities have 'several' Apple Stores?

What is he going to do when the iPad 3 comes out?

I'm sure Apple will release the iKindey soon enough, of course the kid will have to sell his liver to get it...

That is without a doubt the most ridiculous thing that I've heard since the last politician said, "You can trust me..."

I would willingly give a kidney to someone who I knew and loved. But SELLING it? The only thing that I would even consider selling one of my kidneys for would be to see Miss K serve as maid of honor at Spike and Buffy's wedding.

He was 17 years old.. he knew what he was doing. And Mrs HisMrs if your fictitious teenage son came up to you and said he wanted the equivalent of what you make all year to buy an ipad and iphone.. Not sure there would be much help that could be provided.

I'm not saying his parents had to buy ALL of it... But then if he was that greedy that he couldn't wait to get those things til, say, Christmas or birthdays, he deserved what he got. 😛

There ya go!! He wanted what he got so he got it. It's a cool status symbol. So what if it cost him a kidney. At least he didn't have to ya know, work for it or anything. Or wait and save up for it.

I'm not speaking my mind right today, apparently... I think he's an overly greedy dude to be willing to give up his kidney instead of, like you said, working for what he wanted. I don't have a very high opinion of people who take the easy way out instead of working for what they want themselves. And i realize that giving up a kidney is by no means easy, I'm just saying... If he wanted those things that badly, he should have went out and got a job, or- shock! horror!- did without.

Giving up a kidney?! The only time I'd give up my kidney (while alive, anyhow. I am an organ donor.) is if my twin or my mom needed one. That's it! I wouldn't buy some stupid piece of technology. I wouldn't sell my organs! That's ridiculous! Stupid kid.

I dont get this why does everyone go mad for a ipad? There more expensive than a laptop and do a lot less yeah they look cool but I dont get the point.

Dancing man, I'm with you on that...I just haven't tasted the Apple Kool-aid yet. I have an ipod that I use for running (one of the tiny square ones with no screen) and am considering getting an iPhone when my t-mobile contract is up (although I love my blackberry)...but I just don't understand why I might need an iPad. What are they for? I have a kindle so I don't need an e-reader. I just don't get the need for one...I'm open to understand though.

Yeah i read this story and i couldn't believe it!!! I mean say it came down to it and he was on his deathbed in the future in need of a kidney, how would he feel knowing he gave his for something that by then will be outdated and possibly useless!
