How could Angel rescue Kate?

Pretty much what Irish Spike suggests. You can either assume that Kate was technically dead for a short time (like Buffy in Prophecy Girl, it only has to be a few seconds to count) or you can assume that the PtB stepped in to help get Angel back on his true path again. Either way works for me.

i dont think im right but ive always had a thought about it. It was said that angel would get to be human if he helped enough people. i thought since rushing back to save Kate was so completely selfless that he had a moment of human life. But hey thats just my thought. i could be wrong. *sigh*

Oh wow that's a nice thought! But I just assumed it was a higher power... PTB etc, helping him out, like in Amends.

I'm going to go ahead and say that the phone call was an invite waiting to happen. Maybe, the PTB did intervene as quoted above, but I don't know. Surely it kept Angel on the righteous path, but so did Darla? Was that all apart of the plan too? The Epiphany and all?

They do make mention that Angel set in motion events when he would've died to save Darla, so maybe this was one of the events that was set into place.

But then what about all the other times he couldn't get into a building? And te specific NON invites from Kate? Hmmm...maybe she was just dying and that was enough?

thats actually a big possibility. but kate mentioned in a later episode that she doesn't remember inviting him in. but thats a very big possibility. maybe the powers took it as an invite

Perhaps when Kate died for a few seconds, if in fact that's what happened...Angel was let in...But the Powers saved her so that Angel wouldn't give up?

yeah i had the idea that she died for the time. cause when you die you have a slight chance of coming back but only for a few minutes

yeah, like buffy did in the first season of her show. Kate probably died just as Angel got there, giving him enough time to snap her out of her overdose.

We can look at it as deus ex machina, which may or less be appropriate. Aside from getting someone who's taken a buncha pills to throw up all the stuff, or get a load of charcoal stuffed into your stomach to absorb the toxic mix, taken as it was presented, there is no earthly way a shower would detox you. There's a reason you don't just see people in the hospital go "She needs a cold shower! Stat!"

Now, this could have been a weakness in writing, an ongoing symptom of tv to use visuals that don't have any real world application (like the old 'taste the cocaine looking thing to see if its cocaine')

I choose to believe that the powers that be, cut both Angel and Kate a little slack. She didn't die. But they also let Angel in the door. They also let Angel be able to wake her up by the cold shower thing. I think it was about sustaining hope.

This was a nice moment because Angel said '*if* nothing we do matters... then all that matters is what we do'. But then it was also saying hey maybe there is something out there bigger then us (and not just bigger evil beings), because Angel was never invited. I don't think she died for a few minutes, the whole point was that she didn't die, and he was able to enter anyway, thus helping restore his faith in humanity/life etc, like what happened in Amends.
It's one of my favourite moments in the series, that part of season 2, because it wasn't all doom and gloom and failed redemption.
I can't believe so many people just thought she died for a while and that was all the writers were trying to say. ::huh1::

The whole season of Angel, and pretty much the entire series, had this sort of philosophical quarrel about how life has no inherent meaning unless you actually give it one. At this point, Angel was at rock-bottom stage, after realizing what the Senior Partners had told him through Dead Holland and nearly consensually giving up his soul by banging Darla. To try to find a technicality (like Kate being dead for a moment) to explain how he entered is missing the point and actually negating the scene and pretty much the entire plot line.
To quote from the Sopranos:
"Sometimes I go about in pity for myself, and all the while, a great wind carries me across the sky."
The fact that he could enter was the closest this series ever got to showing the "great wind".
