How Could they have survived?

*raises hand* I think if they made a movie out of it, we would be dissapointed, cuz in our little heads we can make them end up however we want...but if they give us closure, there's no room for imagining.
 
I don't think they survived. It's highly unlikely that Buffy and Co intervened, considering they didn't even know about it, and were not interested in helping out W&H employees.

When I think about all that was coming down the alley, I just don't have hope that there was much survival.
 
I think they survived, I dont know why but I just do, I am just hanging on for hope for a movie or anything in the future, you never know
 
Worst ending ever! I was soooooooo mad at the way they just cut it off... I wish that Sarah Michelle Gellar wasn't so hateful towards the idea of a BTVS movie... I heard that they were thinking about doing a Spike movie...
 
I would like to think that they survived (and the official whedon word is that they did) which works well, because I'd like to put them into the fanfic i'm going to write...besides, the respective characters have survived HOW many appocalypses by now? They're getting good at it. And if neither Angel OR Spike survived, the whole shanshu profecy would be a bunch of BS wouldn't it?
but anyhow, I'm unsure as to HOW they survive. I read a pretty good fanfic once about the scooby gang coming to the rescue, and that made alot of sense. I think that there are a lot of options for their survival though. I think one of the more obvious ones would be intervention from the powers that be....but of course, we won't know anytime soon (if ever). I guess we'll all just come up with our own endings in our heads.
 
The Shanshu Prophecy was BS anyways, well, that's what I think anyways. Prophecies are always messing up in their world!

I wouldn't be dissapointed in anything they would come up with. I've liked everything else, why not a movie.
 
I love the idea they survived..I think we have had enough death in BTVS, and Angel for 10 shows. I loved Fred, Wes, and Cordy's characters..I am sure we all felt it when they died..to me another death would just be too much. We get it the world is harsh and full of pain, but I would like a happy ending.
 
Even if the ending was happy, I still think Gunn wouldn't have survived, he was barely standing, could hardly fight at all. It would be so sad to know that Gunn didn't make it.
 
While the final Scene would lead us to believe the outcome would be grim if not altogether hopeless, Whedon still maintains that there were indeed plans for a sixth season, so SOMEBODY must've been intended to survive, and given the title of the series, Angel was probably among the list of survivers.

Of course Spike has to survive. He has to go to Rome, kick the Immortal's a** up and down each of Rome's seven hills before dunking him in all three rivers, sweeping Buffy off her feet, and riding off into the sunset on a golden palomino stallion singing, "Happy Trails To You."

Angel, Spike and Illyria would have definetly survived. According to the Angel production team if Season 6 went ahead Gunn's fate would have been slightly different. Gunn, who is dying as the battle begins, is sired by a vampire when the demons attack. Making Gunn the Season 6 Big Bad and allowing his story arc to come full circle.

I've always assumed that Cordelia would alert Willow in some way and that she along with Buffy, Xander, Giles and the Slayers would rush to LA to battle alongside Angel, Spike and Illyria. Thus winning the battle of the Alley and defeating Wolfram & Hart in that reality. It would also complete the storyline of Giles offering no assistance to Angel until he finally opposed Wolfram & Hart and returned back to their side. This would also fit in with Joss' plans of Giles asking Willow to split Fred and Illyria into two seperate entities. Then considering the lack of characters Angel Investigatons would now have I'd like to think a couple of Slayers would stay in LA with them. Also, I imagine Nina would have been further developed and become a part of the group. I also heard rumours that Oz would return but I'd rather have had Kate Lockley come back and become a main character.

Judging by the evidence of the plans for the Season 6 that never was and fan speculation this seems the most likely theory. It's certainly the one I agree with at the present.

That's not full circle, that's a jagged hexagon! Why does Joss keep killing Angel characters? 😛 I guess I'd be interested still, but I love Gunn.
Although I do like the rumor of Oz being a regular on Angel.

Yes, I really would love for oz to come back. The only thing is that Lorne wouldn't be coming back since his character has come full circle. Both Vampires would definetley survive too.
 
Angel's attack on the Circle of the Black Thorn was kept a deep dark secret by Angel until the last possible moment, so the logistics of getting an army of Slayers there in time to do any good would be very difficult. Other help was available, though, in the form of Gunn's old gang of demon fighters and all the allies they could gather on short notice. It's not a tremendous stretch of the imagination for me to envision Gunn inadvertantly mentioning the coming battle to Anne, and her spreading the word to the local demon fighters (think of basicly the same thing as what happened when Buffy and the gang stopped the Mayor's plans with the help of the entire graduating class). Gunn's gang had previously moved into modern times in the sence that they used firearms, so that in and of itself could have tipped the scales in the good guys' favor.

good idea about Anne, didn't think of that.
You'd think with all the slayers lying around they could have got a couple to help out. I suppose it would be hard though to let the good guys know what was going down without loosing the element of surprise.
 
I read a rumor on some random buffy sight that joss's plans were,
"Angel looses an arm."
"Gunn becomes a vampire within 20 minutes of the fight."
And "Spike goes shanshu."
i can't remember where, but the details have always stuck with me.
It would finally be nice to see angel get into a relationship that could actually work. I've always hoped for a buffy/angel get back together scenario, but unlikely. I just wish the guy had a break, cause his life/afterlife kinda blows.
