How Darlas death ruined Angels chance at happiness..

This thought came to me and the sheer genius of it astounded me..

in SURprise, Angel shagged Buffy and lost his soul
in REprise, Angel shagged Darla and got his soul

So... if she had not have died, couldnt he have kept her chained in the closet like Wes did skanky chick, so then he could shag Buffy and turn around and shag her and everything would be okay?

That damned Connor cost him his one true chance at a normal, albeit it possibly exhausting, life.

I don't understand your logic, though. Just keep Darla chained away so he could go galavanting around shagging Buffy, and then go shag Darla in chains to regain his soul? That's messed up.

Now onto the point, Angel hadn't lost his soul in season 2 of Angel - though again, its interesting both these were season 2 arcs - but rather was blinded by a need to get rid of Darla.
His epiphany isn't him finding his soul, but understanding his purpose.

Sleeping with Darla didn't give Angel his soul back. He was still all souled up when he slept with her. Sleeping with Darla was a wake up call. He realized he'd reached the lowest point he coujld possibly reach, and he needed to start pulling himself out.

I think in Angel's mind he just didn't care anymore. He expected to lose his soul after sleeping with Darla, that's what he wanted, maybe. He just didn't care enough to give a damn anymore.

As much as I don't think it would work, I would like to see Angel try this method out for a while...maybe constantly for a week!
