After watchin Buffy season 1, it made me see just houw dated the season is. The hair, the clothes and also the way that they talk its just not right!!

Does anyone else think this?

Also, it was nice to see Sarah Michelle Gellar with some meat on her bones, rather then in season 7 where she looks a bag of bones!!

Well, it's dated because it's from like..... 1996. Horrors!

It is interesting. Big hair, strange clothes. I think though, that if the show's set designs and lighting effects woul'dve been in place then, season one would've not looked so dated.

It's still not as dated as the movie...

But hey, that's how we 16 year olds dressed back then 🙂

oh my gosh, I totally forgot about the movie! That is seriously outdated!

And actually, now that you bring it up Cordelia.... I was fifteen in 96, and the characters on Buffy and their dress were actually pretty cutting edge. They dressed way better than I did (which isn't hard........) 🙂

It's funny, my junior prom dress was very close to Buffy's dress in Prophecy girl. I actually wore it once with a Leather jacket on Halloween to be her 🙂

Yeah you see I was always jealous of how Buffy dressed. I was 16 when Buffy first aired and I didn't dress that well! I know they look dated now but hey, we all dressed like that in those days.

I don't think it looks THAT dated. The only thing that makes it look dated to me is the film they used. If they would've filmed season 1 and 2 with the film they used in seasons 3 afterwards, it would look very good. And I actually like the outfits and they hair they use 😀

I love season one! It's one of my favorite seasons (and, unfortunately, the only season I own on DVD right now). I don't like the cheap film that's used. But when I was watching it I did notice how "old" it looked. Fashion changes FAST. But other than the hair and clothes, it's awesome.

Yeah... it's horrible when you look at season one.. The clothes make me sick 😀 But it's so typical, gah.. I was like 11 then but yup, that's how I wanted to dress too, lol.. (Honestly though, I dressed more like Willow 😉 )

Season one looked dated but duh, 96!!!!! Season one happens to be one of the best seasons to me. I loved the Buffy wearing short skirts and short dresses and shot skirts and short dresses....didn't I say that already!!!🙂

Sarah was hot then. Going to the sex thread!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the whole foundation though, not everything starts out perfect. Some things develop as they age, and I definitely think that this was the case with Buffy! Although I agree that SMG looked a lot healthier back then.
Actually, I just got Seasons 1,2&3 on DVD for Christmas today! I no longer have to nick my brother's videos!!!!🙂

Eh, it's a tad dated. You should have been able to tell that just by the way that it was filmed back then, and how the colors of the show itself appear... Heh, Im talking about the 90's like they were really so long ago... XD

I rather enjoy watching the first season to the latter ones because it seems more true to the storyline that I grew to love. Sure the lingo and stuff is a lil old-faced compared to what it is now, but *shrug* oh well. Gotta love it.

Good points. I mean, without the first season, we wouldn't have had such an amazing show. And as you said, it has some great storylines, especially the one that we watched for six more seasons.... Buffy being the Slayer and how she reacts to that.

Season 1 dated? Of course it would look that way...that was nearly a decade ago...
*thinks over that* Wow, I'm old...haha...tho not really, cuz i was 6 when i started watching the show...heh. Which was s1...

Even though season 1 is a bit dated I still love it. The hair and clothes doesn't bother me. That's half the reason I love season 1.

Yeah I agree. Season One was totally awesome!

You know, it's interesting. I don't think it was so much that the show itself was actually dated because, in season two, the show seemed to get a whole new look, especially in the way the students dressed. It felt more normal, I guess. Season 2 felt a lot like later seasons.

I think, mainly, season one was going for a certain appearance. Also, I think the first season was kinda supposed to look like what Buffy, the movie looked like, which was done in the early '90's, I believe. I mean, we have the extremes. The geeky Willow with her long dresses and stockings, we've got the fashionable Buffy in her short skirts and make-up and nail polish and we've got Xander who's supposed to be "the average guy". I mean, going through high school I don't ever remember girls wearing skirts that short to school or wearing dresses all the time (or if at all, really). Okay, so I was in high school in '98, not '96 but still. I don't think styles change that much in only a year or two.

So for season 1, I think it was all about getting a certain image across as far as the show was concerned. I don't know how much it really reflected on the average styles of that time. Because in season 2, I think you definitely see a shift in the way people look. Buffy, for one, I don't remember her wearing as much make-up as she did in season 1 and Willow was out of her long dresses and stockings.

It does seem a bit odd to watch season 1 now, but it's probably a good glimpse as to a typical US teen school in '96. I still love it though.

I perfer to think of it as "timeless" 😀

I imagine that it's true for any show more than a few years old though. You look at episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 and you will cringe at some of the clothes you see people wearing back then, not to mention some of the dialogue.

The thing about using contemporary teen language for the time you make a tv series is that within a few years that language seems very uncool, lol!
