How Dated is Season 1?

Its dated but I love thats what I love about it. Season one ROCKS!

its not just the clothes - the special effects look terrible now.
whereas i watch something like star wars and it still looks pretty good today
Considering we're talking about the first season of a television show in 1996. Think about how much money there wasnt...going into the show. It was on a small network, with a low budget. They did what they could. When it was obvious it was becoming a hit, they probably had a bigger budget. I dont think anyone thought it was going to be a hit in the first season. Plus, think of how much technology advanced from 96 to 98. Two years made a difference.

I loved the way they dressed. It really got my attention. I loved Buffy's blonde hair with the bangs, it's like mine so I guess that makes me want to like it. But I guess it was a little dated. It was the middle 90s. 🙂.

lol i love season 1 and the film plus the year and the clothes all contribute to how outdated it looks, although i have to admit, B with her prophecy girl dress and the leather jacket was the kick, i love it.

the thing hat dates it the most for me but its like that with the 1st season of any show is the shooting of it, it just looks so date and old .

Well I think Buffy's clothes were the best in season 1. She wore boots and skirts and othe stuff that looks good on her.

In season 2 she wore like these short pants (which to me don't look good on anybody) and dress shoes a lot. Which to me is not very stylish.

In season 3 she wore the worst clothes. She wore ugly dresses (there is nothing wrong with dresses, it was just her dresses were ugly) and ugly dress shoes. She sometimes wore some stylish clothes but not very often.

In season 4 she wore some what good clothes. Some of them are actually stylish today. Like capri pants.

In season 5 she got back on track with the clothes. They were cool looking but not that stylish today. She wore a lot of leather pants. Which are not that stylish.

In season 6 almost everything she wore was good.

In season 7 she wore the best clothes too. With the long jackets and pants that actually were not too short for her.

I don't think Sarah was ever to skinny. She was pretty skinny but some of the people I know look like her when she was doing the 7th season. Which was only like 3 years ago. I think she got a little more meat on her. I can't really tell because I haven't really seen her in any movies lately.

She has brown hair again!! Her natural color!

Nice and detailed post. Plus, i'm new so I just wanted to say Hi :)
lol yer the clothes were preety retro!! but it was 1997, thats like nearly 10 years ago now!! wow never relised it had been so long!!

Isn't that whole thing sorta inevitable, given that shows don't magically get changed as the years move by? They're filmed at one point in time and that's what you see both that year and ten years later. Of course it's dated, because the world seems to have an obsession with constantly changing into something new even though it seems to be going around in circles fashion-wise. Who knows, maybe in another decade those fashions will be back in and ignorant young people will think the show was ahead of it's time or a look into the future.

Unless of course you happen to be the original series of Star Trek, in which case you get a snazzy new updated look with all new effects and cgi ships.

i'm not disagreeing with any of that. 🙂
they didn't have the money to make it look great, hence today it looks dated.

then how come other old things aren't labelled as dated... you're not the first to make the point that the show was made 10 years ago.

It's like complaining Cheers or Happy Days is dated. Uh, no duhh. The way society innovates, EVERYTHING is dated within a matter of years. I look at the first season of Smallville (which was only five years ago) and marvel at the fact that Chloe still had a black PowerBook, the iPod was in its first generation, etc.

sorry to keep harping on, but i don't think you have read the whole thread.

as i said, several times, not everything dates.
season 2 (which was done a long time ago now) doesnt look dated
neither does s3, s4, s5, s6 or s7.

thats why the topic is "how dated is s1"

The clothing and such, sure, but the content is what made me fall in love with the show to begin with. The twists in plot, the snappy lines (much snappier than in later seasons) is very much in line with season two for me.

Well it's almost...10 years old now. Even the "Cool kids" like Cordelia had some fashion shockers (Like in "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" when she is getting her necklace off to give to Xander. WHAT WAS SHE WEARING?! And basicly everything Willow wore was strange.
